ICONIC hitman John Wick will be back in cinemas for the fifth time and Keanu Reeves will return to portray the titular character.
According to Variety, the franchise is set to expand to an animated series that is a prequel to the films of the John Wick franchise. The said animation is set before the first movie that premiered on the year 2014.
“I feel John Wick is the perfect property for this medium,” said director Chad Stahelski in a statement in USA today, “Anime holds the potential to expand our world, our characters and our action in ways unimaginable before.”
The franchise is also set to do a spinoff of the blind assassin Caine that will be directed by Donnie Yen.
These projects are complementary to the upcoming film “Ballerina,” which is led by actress Ana de Armas and is set to open in theaters on June 6.
The fifth chapter of the John Wick film will take place before the 2014’s John Wick film.
Lionsgate chair Adam Fogelson said that the main cast won’t make another comeback unless there is something fresh and unique to offer for the roles and the John Wick cinematic universe.
“Keanu, Chad, Basil and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world,” Fogelson said. Iwanyk and Lee added, “It’s so important to get this story right and give John’s story the proper next step. It’s exciting to take the first step on that road.”
As of writing, Lionsgate has yet to reveal a production timeline nor additional cast members for the upcoming film.
