“HAIKYUU!!” fans are set to witness another epic match of the Karasuno High volleyball team, following its iconic “Dumpster Battle” with rival Nekoma High!
TOHO Animation, a Japanese anime production company, unveiled the first teaser of the forthcoming film “Haikyuu!! vs. The Little Giant” on its official YouTube channel.
The 59-second teaser showcased Karasuno’s previous battles with other high school volleyball teams—including Aoba Johsai High and Shiratorizawa Academy—that led them to participate in the Spring Nationals. It also highlighted the historic “Dumpster Battle,” where Karasuno earned its ticket to the next round of the volleyball tournament.
This is where the “Haikyuu!! vs. The Little Giant” film enters the frame.
While the official synopsis has yet to be unveiled, the new film is expected to follow the match between Karasuno and Kamomedai High, where Shoyo Hinata—Karasuno’s middle blocker and “ultimate decoy”—faces Kamomedai’s ace and “Little Giant,” Korai Hoshiumi. Both players can jump extraordinary heights despite their short stature.
As of writing, the release date of “Haikyuu!! vs. The Little Giant” has yet to be announced.
Special anime
Another surprising news for “Haikyuu!!” fans is a new special anime that will air on their small screens.
Titled “Haikyu!! Bakemonotachi no Iku Tokoro (The Place Where Monsters Go),” the forthcoming special anime is expected to highlight the Nationals match between the volleyball teams of Fukurodani Academy, led by its captain Bokuto Kotaro, and Mujinazaka High.
TOHO Animation also released a preview teaser of “Haikyu!! Bakemonotachi no Iku Tokoro,” featuring a conversation between Bokuto and his teammate, Keiji Akaashi, who are both determined to win the Spring Nationals.
On X (formerly Twitter), fans are elated over the two forthcoming anime projects, with many looking forward to the anime version of the Fukurodani vs. Mujinazaka match.
The “Haikyuu!!” anime series has four seasons, which are all available on streaming platform Netflix. This is based on the manga series of the same name by Japanese manga artist Haruichi Furudate.
While the anime projects are ongoing, the manga series released its final chapter in July 2020 after an eight-year run.
