VIEWERS have seen Philippine adaptations of several popular Korean series in recent years, such as “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim,” “Descendants of the Sun,” and “Start-Up.” Now, what if we tell you that another hit K-drama is reportedly having a local remake?

The Korea Times reported that adaptation rights for JTBC’s beloved drama “Itaewon Class” were recently sold to production teams in the Philippines and Vietnam.

Based on the webtoon of the same name, “Itaewon Class” follows Park Saeroyi, who opens a bar-restaurant in Itaewon after he is released from jail. He aims to expand his business and defeat the famous food company Jangga Group, owned by the family responsible for his father’s death.

The original cast of “Itaewon Class” included Park Seojoon, who gave life to Saeroyi. He was joined by Kim Dami, Yoo Jaemyung, Kwon Nara, Kim Donghee, Ryu Kyungsoo, Lee Jooyoung, Chris Lyon, and Ahn Bohyun, among others.

It premiered in 2020 and was directed by Kim Seongyoon, who also helmed hit K-dramas “Who Are You: School 2015” and “Love in the Moonlight.”

Excited fans

Further details about the Philippine remake of “Itaewon Class” are yet to be confirmed. Still, the news thrilled many Filipino K-drama fans who are looking forward to the adaptation’s Filipino cast.

“So sino ang gaganap? Ayusin niyo please!!! Fave ko rin ‘yang K-drama!” a netizen said on X (formerly Twitter).

One fan even mentioned Kapuso actor David Licauco on the same platform as a possible cast member for the remake. The actor replied to the netizen and said, “The dream.”

Meanwhile, some are wondering what the Philippine remake’s title would be.

“Itaewon Class” had its Japanese remake in 2022, titled “Roppongi Class,” starring actor Ryoma Takeuchi.

“Itaewon Class” is available for streaming on Netflix with 16 episodes.
