Justin Bieber returns with ‘Swag’

by Joanna Deala

CANADIAN singer Justin Bieber made a surprise comeback to the music scene with the release of his seventh studio album, “Swag.”

The pop star, who rose to fame in the late 2000s, dropped “Swag” on Friday, July 11, just a day after he began teasing about his long-awaited album through various black and white billboards featuring him, his wife, Hailey Bieber, and their first-born child, Jack Blues Bieber.

These billboards also displayed the album’s 20-song tracklist. They are: “All I Can Take,” “Daisies,” “Yukon,” “Go Baby,” “Things You Do,” “Butterflies,” “Way It Is,” “First Place,” “Soulful,” and “Walking Away.”

It also includes the songs “Glory Voice Memo,” “Devotion,” “Dadz Love,” “Therapy Session,” “Sweet Spot,” “405,” “Swag,” “Zuma House,” “Too Long,” and “Forgiveness.”

But when it was released on online music streaming platforms, the “Swag” album features one more track called “Standing On Business.”

It was not a song but a recording of Bieber and Druski talking over the former’s viral confrontation with a paparazzi who was following him during his trip to a Malibu beach in June.

“I like that you pronounce ‘business.’ Usually, when I say, ‘Standin’ on business, I say, ‘Standin’ on bihness,'” Druski told Bieber.

“I think that’s why [the paparazzi] ain’t leave right there. You can’t pronunciate every word when you doin’ that,” he added, to which Bieber agreed.

“Swag” is Bieber’s first album since 2021, when he released “Justice,” featuring hit songs “Ghost” and “Peaches (feat. Daniel Caesar and Giveon).”

Several Filipino millennials and Gen Zs grew up listening to Bieber’s songs, from the viral “One Time,” to “Baby,” “Eenie Meenie,” “Never Say Never,” “Mistletoe,” “Beauty And A Beat,” and “Sorry,” among others, that gave them major last song syndrome (LSS) during their high school and college days.

In 2024, Bieber and his wife, who have been married since 2018, welcomed their first child.
