Jung Hae In’s romance dramas you should watch before his Manila visit

by Joanna Deala

THE list of walking green flags continues to grow—thanks to Jung Hae In for giving life to Choi Seung-hyo.

Jung has been delivering butterflies to viewers’ stomachs with his charming portrayal in his ongoing Korean drama “Love Next Door” with actress Jung So Min.

Filipino K-drama fans could not be luckier to meet the South Korean actor in person, as he is set to visit the Philippines for a fan meet.

Titled “Our Time,” the fan meet will be held on December 21 at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City. Local promoter CDM Entertainment released the seat plan and ticket prices for the event, which range from P3,200 to P11,000.

Of course, there will also be fan benefits, including a signed polaroid, photocard, and poster, which will be given to several lucky fans.

Filipino fans have less than two months before the fan meet. Perhaps, this will be a good time to rewatch or explore Jung’s romance dramas to feel the ‘kilig’ and take a break from our busy schedules.

‘While You Were Sleeping’

Jung has been acting on small and big screen projects since 2014, but he gained popularity with his performance in the 2017 fantasy series “While You Were Sleeping.”

In this drama, Jung played the role of Han Woo-tak, a police officer who was at the top of his class. He harbors romantic feelings towards Nam Hong-joo, played by Bae Suzy, but she falls in love with Jung Jae-chan, portrayed by Lee Jong-suk.

While Jung did not win the hearts of the female lead, he made many viewers fall for his ideal character, describing him as a “best boy.”

His performance earned him a nomination for the Excellence Award (Actor) at the 2017 SBS Drama Awards.

‘Something in the Rain’

Before Captain Ri from the 2019 hit K-drama “Crash Landing on You,” there was Seo Jun-hui from the 2018 romance drama “Something in the Rain.”

Jung played the role of Jun-hui, an animator at a video game company who falls in love with a store supervisor named Yoon Jin-ah (played by Son Ye-jin). The series highlights how mere acquaintances can develop into true love.

This romantic melodrama might hold a special place not only in the viewers’ hearts but also in Jung’s as this was where he landed his first leading role.

The actor bagged several awards from the APAN Star Awards and The Seoul Awards in 2018, including the Popularity Award and the Hallyu Artist Award.

‘One Spring Night’

Jung continued to win the viewers’ hearts with his other endearing character—this time, with an adorable son—in the 2019 romance drama “One Spring Night,” along with Han Ji-min.

Jung gave life to Yoo Ji-ho, a pharmacist and a single dad. He crosses paths with a librarian named Lee Jeong-in, played by Han. The two eventually grow romantic feelings for one another as they see love from a new perspective.

“One Spring Night” was directed by Ahn Pan-seok, who also helmed “Something in the Rain.”

His performance in the drama bagged him the Top Excellence Award (Actor) at the 2019 MBC Drama Awards.

‘Snowdrop’

Prepare your tissues because this 2021 romance film is not just about rainbows and butterflies.

“Snowdrop” features Jung as a North Korean agent who is assigned to South Korea for a mission. He then meets Eun Yeong-ro, played by BLACKPINK’s Jisoo, who is a freshman majoring in English literature at Hosu Women’s University.

They developed a romantic relationship amidst a political upheaval in 1987.

We are not going to spoil anything else about the series, but we are going to hold your hand when we say that “Snowdrop” becomes the “biggest K-drama heartbreak” to some.

‘Love Next Door’

Of course, this list won’t end without the current favorite Jung K-drama—a.k.a “Love Next Door.”

This series will remind you of your first love, as the story follows a young and successful architect named Choi Seung-hyo (played by Jung), who has harbored romantic feelings for his friend Bae Seok-ryu (portrayed by So-min) since childhood.

The story between the two continues to unfold as the series dropped its 12th episode last weekend, earning its highest viewership to date, according to reports.

“Love Next Door” has four more episodes left, with the final episode scheduled to be released on October 6 on Netflix.
