Juan Karlos hits milestones with ‘Ere’

by RepublicAsia

SINGER-songwriter Juan Karlos Labajo, also known as JK, reached new heights with his song “ERE.”

On Tuesday, “ERE” topped the Billboard Philippines songs chart for the week, beginning on October 16. Billboard Philippines said that Labajo’s hit song snatched the top spot from BTS Jungkook’s “3D,” which features rapper Jack Harlow.

Prior to this, “ERE” has been making waves on Spotify’s global chart, landing on the 58th spot with 1.779 million streams on October 13.

Chart Data said that this is the “biggest single day streams for a Filipino song in history.”

“ERE” also made history by becoming the first Filipino song to debut on Spotify’s global chart with 1.22 million streams.

It also surpassed American singer-songwriter and 12-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift’s “Mine (Taylor Version),” with 1.39 million streams.

It then became the first Filipino song to reach the top 100 on the global chart with 1.45 million streams.

“ERE” is part of Labajo’s latest album called “Sad Songs and Bullshit Part 1,” released in September 2023.

The album has nine tracks, namely, “Sad Songs and Bullshit,” “ERE,” “may halaga pa ba ako sayo??” “Manhid,” “Paruparo,” “Gabi,” “Time Machine,” “Lumisan,” and “Tapusin Na Natin To,” which features Ben&Ben’s Paolo Benjamin.

In an Instagram post, Labajo said that the heart-wrenching album “originally started out as a compilation of all the love songs that I made for someone whom I gave so much of myself to.”

But “things didn’t turn out the way I hoped for,” he added.

“The song started to not make any sense. All the songs for love turned into songs for sadness,” he continued.

The album initially had 18 songs, but the singer decided to divide it into two parts. The second part of the album will be dropped early next year, Labajo said.

Aside from being a singer-songwriter, Labajo also ventured into acting, with “Senior High” being his latest project.

Labajo is portraying the role of Gino in the teen drama series, where he is joined by Andrea Brillantes, Kyle Echarri, Elijah Canlas, Xyriel Manabat, and Zaijan Jaranilla, among others.
