Who is Jarod Hatch?
Born to a Filipina mother and raised in the United States, Jarod Jason Lang Hatch (famously known as Jarod Hatch) is set to be one of the competitors under the men swimmer category for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The star swimmer was born December 10, 1998 in Daly City, California to Jason and Gielanie Hatch. He weighs 167 and stands 6’2.
In 2021, Hatch would graduate from University of California, Berkeley—majoring in Business under his swimming scholarship.
Sports background
Since 2018, the California-born athlete has been representing the Philippine flag in sports tournaments such as the SEA Games and Aquatics Championships.
In the same year, he also became part of the Philippine National team.
Hatch participated in 2019 SEA Games in the country on where he failed to medal due to him missing the podium of men’s 100m butterfly.
However, he and his team won silver in the 4x100m relay.
In 2021, Hatch announced his sudden retirement in sport but came back in 2023—bannering the Philippine swimming team at the Cambodia SEA Games.
This event lead him set a new record for Philippine national record of 50m butterfly at 23.89 seconds.
There he bagged three medals including a silver finish in the mixed 4x100m medley and bronze in men’s 50m and 100m butterfly.
In the World Aquatics championships in Fukouka, Japan last July 2023–Hatch set a new National swimming record after clocking 52.87 seconds in men’s 100m butterfly event.
However he failed to make it to the final round after placing only 32nd overall in 76-man pack.
Qualified for Olympics
Both Jarod Hatch and Kayla Sanchez qualified to Paris olympics through Universality places that’s allocated for the top-ranked female and male swimmers of the National Olympic Committee (NOC).
Universality is a way for the Olympics to give sports for countries who are underrepresented.
The 25-year-old Filipino-American is set to swim in the men’s 100m butterfly in the Paris Olympics.
