SEEING your favorite idols upfront feels like heaven on stage. From their inspiring music to their impeccable performances, it is undeniable that teenagers and adults support artists, local or international.
These artists portray a significant role in people’s lives, through their performances and music. Supporting favorite artists offers a glimpse into the kind of life one might aspire to have. Even personal ideologies and dreams are oftentimes influenced by these idols.
Through their craft, idols become more than just artists with music; they also have become the reasons for their fans’ aspirations and moral beliefs.
What’s with their music and why do people find inspiration in their craft?
Zoomers are wise enough to understand the message of each performance. They perceive healing through simple and hidden messages from their favorites. Even foreign artists who perform in a different language reach this generation and are effective as well for older generations.
Maxine Bolor, an avid Gen Z K-pop fan since 2016, shared that the K-pop music industry matches her taste in music so well. She said that some people who aren’t fans might not grasp what it’s like to be one.
“The happiness and ‘girl therapy’ that we call gives us motivation to move forward,” she said.
Maxine explained that the extreme love and adoration stem from the belief that many fans appreciate the K-pop genre not only for its dance and music styles but also for its passion, as it is always rich in symbolism and beautiful imagery.
Other Gen Zs like Maxine, a frequent concert attendee, eagerly anticipate when their idols go on tour, especially when the Philippines is one of the countries on the tour itinerary.
“Attending a concert led me to a door. It makes me feel alive and shows me that in this noisy world. Just thinking about finally seeing my home in a crowd without (any) judgment,” she said.
It takes a lot to reach this point of leaving all your worries behind and just enjoying life and music in a huge place with people of similar interests. It’s like being in love with life after all the worries!
Adapting to idol culture
It has become a cultural phenomenon adapting to idol culture. Humble beginnings have evolved into enormous performances, with thousands of tickets selling out within minutes.
Aside from the flashy performances, the K-pop community has influenced the youth through their fashion, traits, and lifestyle. With continuous growth and development, every single habit is closely observed by fans who wish to relate to their idols.
Maxine shared how her idols somehow show a reflection of how she has evolved: “K-pop artists and the community taught me valuable lessons about hard work and teamwork.”
“As a fresh communication graduate, such principles boost me to collaborate with people from all backgrounds and cultures,” she added.
True enough, there is more to their music and performances. Idols themselves are also people with whom others can relate to.
These idols have also thrived and become fans of those they considered their inspirations. They are the ones who once wished to see their favorites perform live. They have simply become the people they aspired to be.
So, this is your sign! Save up and aim for that concert that you’ve been eyeing to join.
However, know that attending these events is not the only way to be considered an avid fan—being inspired and striving to do good in life is the main goal of having a fulfilling life.
