How to stay updated in times of calamity

by Deanna Macaranas

THE ‘Ber’ months will surely be filled with rainy days ahead due the wet seasons and the ‘habagat’ (southwest monsoon).

Because of this, a lot of people would expect their areas to be dampened by the rainfall and, in the case of flood-prone areas, flooding is something people watch out for.

In times of calamity, it is important to be updated about the happenings within your area. If you happen to not have any idea on how to stay updated in times like this, these are pages you can visit:

PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administrations (PAGASA) is a government agency that gives forecasts and updates on the storm that is currently in the country. It also provides rainfall warnings in different areas.

PAGASA’s updates can be visited on their website: https://www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph/ or at X (formerly Twitter).

NDRRMC

Aside from PAGASA, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council is also a place to look for updates during calamities.

NDRRMC is responsible for disaster preparedness programs and disaster operations undertaken by both the government and the private sector.

Check in with your city’s page

In case you didn’t know, provinces, cities and municipalities, even barangays have their own Facebook pages where they share updates on the happenings within their locality. This is also the same page where the LGUs (Local Government Unit) announce class and work suspensions.

Keeping up with the news

And last but not the least is to be updated with the news itself. The goal of different news outlets is to keep the citizens updated by providing facts, real-time updates, and on-the-ground happenings.
