“Raise anchors. Hoist the mainsail. All hands on deck, demigods. We’re heading for the Sea of Monsters!” Riordan was quoted as saying.

The first season adapted the first of Riordan’s novels, “The Lightning Thief,” where protagonist Percy Jackson was accused by sky god Zeus of stealing his lightning bolt. Percy, along with his friends Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood, embark on a journey to find the lightning bolt and prevent a war from ensuing between Zeus and Percy’s father Poseidon.
The new installment will follow Percy and other demigods on a quest to the Sea of Monsters to retrieve the Golden Fleece.
Actor Walker Scobell plays the role of Percy while Leah Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri as Annabeth and Grover, respectively.
The first season aired on Disney+ in December 2023, with a total of eight episodes with a running time of less than an hour each.
Disney reported on Wednesday that the fantasy series was one of the top five season premieres of 2023, garnering over 110 million hours streams to date on Disney+ and Hulu.
It said that the first episode had 26.2 million views in its first three weeks on the two streaming platforms.
Further details about the second season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” such as its premiere date and the number of episodes it will have, have yet to be announced.
Movie versions
Prior to the series adaptation, the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” book series was first adapted into two films: “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” in 2010 and “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” in 2013.
Chris Columbus directed “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” while “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” was helmed by Thor Freudenthal.
Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brandon Jackson played the roles of Percy, Annabeth and Grover respectively, in both movie adaptations.
Lerman previously expressed his approval of choosing Scobell to play the titular role and said that he couldn’t imagine “a better fit” for the character than the young actor.
