OLYMPIC gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo is back in training for the 19th Asian Games, which will commence on September 23 in Hangzhou, China.
Hidilyn was spotted exercising with fellow weightlifter Rosegie Ramos in an Instagram post by her husband-coach Julius Naranjo.
She is expected to ramp up her training sessions in the weeks leading up to the Asian Games.
The Philippines’ first-ever Olympic gold medalist finished seventh at the 2023 IWF World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, held on September 8.
Despite failing to win a medal, Hidilyn took the time to express her thoughts on the tournament. She stated that this was her first time competing in the 59kg weight class.
“Competing here reminds me that I’m still in the game and I’m capable of doing so much more,” Hidilyn wrote on Instagram.
Her participation in the IWF World Weightlifting Championships was good preparation for the Asian Games while also keeping track of her main goal of making it to Paris 2024.
Hidilyn earned her first Asiad gold in the 55kg weight class in 2018 in Indonesia, which she also dominated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
