Here’s what’s inside a DSWD family food pack

by Joanna Deala

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is continuously distributing family food packs (FFPs) to Filipinos affected by the inclement weather in several parts of the country.

On Thursday, July 24, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian distributed FFPs and other essential items to the habagat-displaced families who are currently seeking temporary shelter at Maly Elementary School and Sta. Ana Barangay Hall in San Mateo, Rizal.

The DSWD said these boxes of FFPs provide food assistance to families affected by any disaster. In case one is wondering, an FFP contains the following food items:

  • Six kilograms of rice
  • Four cans of corned beef
  • Four cans of tuna flakes
  • Two cans of sardines
  • Five sachets of coffee
  • Five sachets of cereal drinks

In a previous interview with Teleradyo Serbisyo, DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said they sometimes alternate cans of corned beef with meatloaf.

“Either corned beef ‘yan or meatloaf. In some areas kasi hindi pwede ang pork,” she said.

An FFP is suitable for a family of five members and can last up to two days, according to the DSWD.

How to receive an FFP

In a Facebook post, the DSWD Field Office 1 outlined the process of distributing FFPs to the disaster-affected families.

To receive the relief items, Filipinos are advised to report their situation to their respective barangay.

“Mahalagang ipagbigay alam sa barangay ang inyong sitwasyon para ito ay kanilang maitala sa report na kanila isusumite sa munisipyo o city hall,” the agency said.

The municipal will record the number of the affected families in the area. The total tally will then be submitted to the DSWD.

“Ang isinumiteng datos ng kapitolyo ang siyang basehan ng ahensya sa bilang ng ibibigay na karagdagang tulong kung sakaling kailanganin,” it said.

The DSWD Field Office 1 has reminded the public that the distribution of the relief items will be based on the request of local government units (LGUs).

“Hindi automatic na may relief items kapag nag-report ng sitwasyon sa Barangay LGU. Sa bawat sakuna, dumadaan sa assessment ang lahat ng ibinibigay na tulog,” the agency stressed.

“Kaya importanteng malaman ng barangay ang inyong sitwasyon para maibigay ang sapat na tulong base sa inyong pangangailangan,” it added.

The DSWD reported that it has distributed a total of 337,204 FFPs to Filipinos affected by severe tropical storm Crising, tropical storm Dante, and typhoon Emong, as of 4 a.m. on Thursday.
