The name is Enola— alone backwards, but never truly on her own.
The brilliant young detective is returning to the screen, with Netflix officially beginning the production for Enola Holmes 3.
Filming is now underway in the United Kingdom, with Millie Bobby Brown, Louis Patridge, Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, Himesh Patel, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster all reprising their roles.
The new Enola Holmes installment will be under the direction of the British filmmaker Philip Barantini, known for his film Boiling Point and its follow up mini-series Adolescence.
It was the first time that Barantini would step into the franchise as the first two movies were directed by another British filmmaker, Harry Bradbeer.
As revealed by Netflix’s Tudum, the third film will see Enola Holmes taking on a brand-new mystery set in the island nation of Malta.
“As the private detective juggles a new case and the next stages of her relationship with Tewkesbury, the game is truly afoot,” it captioned.
Enola Holmes is a mystery-adventure film series that follows the clever and rebellious younger sister of Sherlock Holmes.
Raised to think for herself, Enola sets out on daring investigations across Victorian England, often outsmarting her famous brother along the way. With wit, independence, and a knack for solving puzzles, she breaks free from society’s expectations—and proves that she’s a detective in her own right.
The series was adapted from Nancy Springer’s works published in 2006, which consisted of six books.
The Enola Holmes films have become both critical and commercial successes for Netflix.
Enola Holmes 2 made an impressive debut, claiming the top spot in global weekly views in late 2022, with over 68 million hours streamed across 93 countries.
Millie Bobby Brown’s portrayal of the sharp-witted detective also earned her a reported $10 million for the lead role, marking the highest upfront salary ever for an actor under 20 at the time.
