‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Lord of the Rings,’ other PH orchestra shows canceled

by Joanna Deala

IT might not yet be the time for Filipino orchestra fans to witness the enchanting world of “The Magical Music of Harry Potter,” “Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit,” “The Music of Hans Zimmer & Others,” and “The Lion King” on the Philippine theater stage.

Kbeam Events announced on its Facebook page that these orchestra concerts—initially set from July 6 to 8 at the Manila Metropolitan Theater—have been canceled “due to unforeseen circumstances.”

In a statement, the organizers clarified they were hired by Star Entertainment, which promoted the orchestra shows, to secure permits needed to arrange the local production of the orchestra concerts.

“The Metropolitan Theater was pencil booked by the promoter and is not involved in any production planning whatsoever,” Kbeam Events said.

“However, due to Star Entertainment’s logistical issues and matters involving their performers, we concluded that it is in everyone’s best interest to cancel these concerts,” it added.

Kbeam Events also apologized for any inconvenience this cancelation has caused.

“Kbeam Events has been operating since 2017 and it has always been our mission to deliver top-quality entertainment and events to our fans and clients,” it said. “Anything less than what is expected by our patrons is not on our agenda.”

While the refund process has already started, the organizers said it would take a few business days for the funds to reflect in ticket holders’ accounts. Ticket prices for the orchestra concerts ranged from P2,200 for Balcony to P6,720 for CAT 1.

The Manila leg for “The Magical Music of Harry Potter” orchestra concert was first announced in December 2024, promising to feature music by several composers, including five-time Oscar winner John Williams and Scottish composer Patrick Doyle.

The local shows for “The Music of Hans Zimmer & Others” and “Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit” were later announced in January, which was supposed to give the spotlight to 40 world-class musicians.
