Government agencies to set up booths for Independence Day

by Deanna Macaranas

JUNE 12 marks the Philippine independence, and the government is preparing something for the upcoming Independence Day commemoration.

Different government agencies are in Rizal Park, preparing booths for the upcoming celebration of the Philippine Independence Day tomorrow.

In Luneta Park, booths of 39 governement agencies participated in the program and services that will be part of the activities for the 126th anniversary of the Philippine Independence Day.

Last Monday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in the place as lead by the MMDA, DTI, National Historical Commision of the Philippines, and Civil Service Commission. The booths will serve as a public one-stop shop for everyone.

Through the booth of Land Transportation Office (LTO), Nicodemus Lim immediately got his license renewed. Aside from receiving his card in paper he got it on card and according to him, the process took him only 30 minutes in total.

“Kapag papel lalo na driver easily dilapidated nasisira maganda ID na, sosyal!” Lim said.

Aside from LTO, programs of nongovernmental organizations are also included.

This is the 11th year that  government programs and services have particiapted in the Philippine Independence Day celebration activities.

According to MMDA acting chairperson Atty. Romando Artes, the purpose of these programs is to help the citizens who are in need.

“Layunin ng programang ito na ilapit sa aming mamamayan ang mandato ng bawat ahensya upang malaman nila kung saang ahensya sila pupunta kapag nangangailangan ng serbisyo,” he said.

Meanwhile CSC acting Asst. Commissioner Nerrisa Canguilan said, “the activites serves as a platfrom for government agencies, instrumentalities, and private institutions to showcase their services, initiatives, and accomplishments to the public.”

Liza Guerrero-Nakpil of Pambansang Komisyong Pangkasaysayan ng Pilipinas said that the public can visit the booth of pampahalaang programa at serbisyo.

For the citizens’ safety, there are over 12,000 cops who will spread out to maintain the safety and security of the public.

According to PNP spokesperson Col.

This year’s Independence Day celebration has the theme of freedom, future, and history, with many more activities that are lined up.

Aside from the activities of various government agencies, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also encouraged Filipinos to join the Independence Day celebration as posted on his Facebook page.

“Kaya samahan n’yo kami, dalhin ang inyong pamilya, ang inyong mga kaibigan at higit sa lahat ang inyong pagka-Pilipino at makilahok sa selebrasyon ng ating ika-isandaang dalawampu’t anim na Araw ng Kalayaan,” he said.

Starting June 10, Filipinos can expect goverment-held programs to be held at Quirino Grandstand and Burnham Green. Citizens can expect a cooking competition, obstacle course race, free concert, and shops for local products.

“Patuloy din ang mga proyektong pangkultura para lalong mapatatag ang ating pagkakakilanlan bilang Pilipino.”

President Marcos also encouraged Filipinos to consider the importance of Independence Day.

“Unang una ay dapat ay ipakita natin at iwagayway natin ang ating watawat para maalala din natin at lahat nang makakita ang buhay ng Pilipino.”

Meanwhile, another exciting thing to look forward to is the free Independence Day concert to be led by P-pop girl group BINI.
