FILIPINO fans went into a frenzy after South Korean actor Byeon Woo Seok announced that he would hold his first-ever fan meeting tour in Asia.
On Instagram, the 32-year-old actor shared a poster for his fan meet, which will be called “Summer Letter.”
“The first Letter to fans,” said Woo Seok in the caption, along with a smiling face with heart eyes emoji.
According to news reports, the fan meeting tour will kick off in Taipei in June, followed by shows in Thailand, South Korea, and Hong Kong. The Philippines is not yet included in the list, but several Filipino fans were clamoring for a Manila leg of the fan meeting.
Woo Seok has been making noise on social media as fan video edits of his character in the ongoing Korean drama “Lovely Runner” have gone viral. Many netizens expressed their adoration for Woo Seok’s character and took an interest in getting to know more about the actor.
While we await further announcements on his fan meeting tour, here are some of his previous and new projects that will make you appreciate him as an actor:
Record of Youth
Woo Seok started his acting career when he made a cameo in the 2016 South Korean series “Dear My Friends.” His hard work eventually resulted in him landing one of the lead roles in the 2020 K-drama “Record of Youth,” alongside Park Bo Gum and Park So Dam.
“Record of Youth” centers on three young individuals in the contemporary fashion industry who are striving to make their dreams come true.
Woo Seok gave life to the character of Won Hae-yo, a model-turned-actor who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He is friends with Hye-jun, played by Bo Gum.
Moonshine
Woo Seok’s acting prowess in the 2021 historical drama “Moonshine” gained him the Best New Actor award at the 2022 KBS Drama Awards.
The story is set during the implementation of the alcohol prohibition law in Joseon. Woo Seok played the role of an alcoholic crown prince named Lee Pyo, who finds ways to leave the palace to drink despite the prohibition.
He starred alongside Yoo Seong Ho and Lee Hye Ri, who played the roles of a righteous inspector named Nam Young and a breadwinner who secretly brews liquor named Kang Ro-seo, respectively.
20th Century Girl
In 2022, Woo Seok landed his first leading role in the coming-of-age romance film “20th Century Girl.”
The movie showcases the friendship and romance between a group of young individuals named Na Bo-ra (played by Kim Yoo Jung), Poong Won-ho (portrayed by Woo Seok), Baek Hyun-jin (played by Park Jung Woo), and Kim Yeon-du (portrayed by Roh Yoon Seo).
They are in their high school years, with Woon-ho being Bo-ra’s classmate and a member of the broadcasting club.
It was through “20th Century Girl” that Woo Seok gained immense popularity among the international audience, including Filipinos. Due to his outstanding portrayal, Woo Seok got nominated for the Best New Actor in Film award at the 2023 Baeksang Arts Awards.
Strong Girl Nam-soon
Woo Seok’s acting career continued to thrive in the following year as he was cast in the romantic comedy series “Strong Girl Nam-soon,” the spin-off of the hit “Strong Girl Bong-soon” in 2017.
The series follows the story of Gang Nam-soon (played by Lee Yoo Mi), a relative of Bong-soon, who got lost in Mongolia when she was a kid. She was born with superhuman strength, which she inherited from the women in her family. She meets a lieutenant named Gang Hee-sik (portrayed by Ong Seong Wu), who investigates the company run by Ryu Shi-oh (played by Woo Seok).
Woo Seok’s character may be the main antagonist in the series, but several viewers found him pitiful as they learned more about his background story.
Lovely Runner
The 32-year-old actor made more viewers swoon over his character in the ongoing fantasy romance drama “Lovely Runner.” The series centers on the relationship between an idol and his fan, making it more relatable to true-to-life fans.
Woo Seok plays the role of Ryu Sun-jae, a top star who has looks, talent, and charm, but his successful celebrity life eventually leads to his untimely death. This prompted his fan Im Sol, whose legs are paralyzed, to travel in the past to save Sun-jae from death.
“Lovely Runner” continues to spark a craze as it recently achieved an average nationwide viewership of 4.8 percent, according to a Soompi report. It dropped episodes 9 and 10 on May 6 and 7, respectively.
