G22 thrills fans with English, Tagalog performance of ‘Golden’ from ‘KPop Demon Hunters’

by Joanna Deala

GIRL group G22, recognized as the “P-pop’s Female Alphas,” let their inner HUNTR/X loose with a rendition of the original soundtrack “Golden” from Netflix’s global animated hit “KPop Demon Hunters.”

The three-member act—composed of AJ, Alfea, and Jaz—performed “Golden” during a concert for a tech company at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, combining the song’s original English lyrics with its Tagalog version.

A part of the Tagalog lyrics goes: “Pinangarap na makalaya ang tunay na sarili / Ang bakas ng aking sikretong / Anino ng hinangaang bituin / Wala nang takot sa tadhanang dapat angkinin  Kami ay Hunters, tinig namin dapat manaig!”

“Golden” is a song that explores themes of embracing one’s true self and overcoming fears.

In “KPop Demon Hunters,” the soundtrack was originally performed by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, who provided the singing voices for Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, respectively, of the fictional K-pop girl group HUNTR/X.

Off stage and camera, HUNTR/X works as demon hunters whose mission is to strengthen the magical barrier called the Honmoon, which protects humans from demons, with their singing voices.

On X (formerly Twitter), G22’s fans, collectively known as Bullets, described their favorite trio as the “real-life version of HUNTR/X” or “HUNTR/X of the Philippines.”

“Honmoon is sealed! I repeat— HONMOON IS SEALED,” said one fan.

“Ang perfect nilang tatlo!! If may Filipino live adaptation [‘yung ‘KPop Demon Hunters’], sila na ‘yun, wala nang iba,” a netizen suggested.

Meanwhile, G22 thanked their fans for cheering them up at the event, which was attended by other Original Pinoy Music (OPM) artists, such as “Popstar Royalty” Sarah Geronimo and “P-pop Kings” SB19.

“We sealed the Honmoon!” the girl group said, sharing a photo of them onstage facing the crowd.

This is not the first time G22 channeled their inner HUNTR/X. The trio previously took on the “Golden” dance trend on TikTok and said they were “training to seal the Honmoon.” The clip has garnered 1.2 million plays as of writing.

AJ’s birthday celebration

After “sealing the Honmoon,” G22 went on to celebrate their leader’s 23rd birthday, AJ, at the concert.

Alfea and Jaz, along with the crowd, sang the Happy Birthday song to AJ, while their backup dancers handed her a cake and a bouquet.

“Happy Birthday to our Heneral PA-PA-PA-PALABAN Filipina Queen, AJ! Wishing you a year full of happiness, success, and good health,” the girl group said on X.

AJ, on the other hand, described this milestone as her “best birthday ever.”

“Dream come true ko talaga na mabati sa stage PROMISE,” the rapper said.

G22 has released two singles for 2025: “Pa-Pa-Pa-Palaban” in March and “Filipina Queen” in May.
