Free Japanese language classes available at QC Public Library

by Joanna Deala

DO you want to learn essential Japanese phrases for your next trip to Japan? Or perhaps, you want to start your career as a Japanese translator?

If yes, then the Quezon City Public Library’s (QCPL) free online basic Japanese language classes might help you!

First launched in 2019, these Japanese language classes are held via Zoom, allowing participants to learn Nihongo from anywhere, whether at school, work, or at home.

The program covers essential Japanese grammar, vocabulary, everyday expressions, and the basics of Hiragana and Katakana writing systems, according to the Quezon City government.

It will also give the participants insights into Japanese customs, etiquette, and cultural practices.

“The QCPL’s Free Online Language Class opens doors of opportunity for every QCitizen—reminding us that in Quezon City, learning knows no limits, and progress begins with knowledge,” QC Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a press statement.

The classes will be led by experienced instructors and trained volunteers from Jellyfish Education Philippines, Inc., the QCPL’s partner for the free program since 2019.

Who can join the class?

The next free Japanese language class is scheduled for June 19, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

It is open to anyone aged 18 and above. They are required to have their own laptop, desktop, or smartphone, and a stable internet connection since the class is conducted via Zoom.

The program will be on a first-come, first-served basis and will only accommodate 500 successful registrants per class.

How to register?

Interested individuals may register through this link.

Once they successfully register, the participant will receive an email and should confirm their attendance within 24 hours. Unconfirmed slots will be given to other registrants.

The final list of participants will receive a confirmation email with Zoom credentials.

The attendees will receive a digital certificate of participation via email.
