FANS of “Attack on Titan” bid farewell to the dark fantasy anime when it dropped its final season in November. The series may be over, but the fans’ love and interest in it continues.
Good news is that they have an opportunity to delve deeper into it, but this time, with a fusion of knowledge about biology.
The University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD)’s Institute of Biology announced that it will be hosting a free lecture on the biology of Titans, featuring those in the series “Attack on Titan.”
The lecture is titled, “Beyond the Walls: Examining the Biology of the Titans in Shingeki no Kyojin.”
This is part of UPD’s BIO 196 undergraduate seminars, which will be hosted today at 6 p.m. via Zoom.
Some interested netizens commented on UPD’s Institute of Biology’s post, saying that they could not register through the Zoom link it provided.
The department said that this is because it received “more sign-ups than expected,” but it announced that a recording of the December 5 lecture will be uploaded on its Facebook page tomorrow, December 6.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the award-winning series revolves around Eren and his quest to exterminate the Titans who attacked his city and killed his mother.
More lectures featuring anime series
But these online seminars will not just feature “Attack on Titan.” Anime fans can look forward to learning more about the branch of science while looking back on their favorite anime series.
On December 12, there will be another free lecture about wisteria, a plant that is lethal to demons in the dark fantasy series “Demon Slayer.”
The lecture is titled “Bane of Blossoms: Unveiling Wisteria’s Toxic Secrets,” which will be hosted at 6 p.m. via Zoom.
“Demon Slayer” follows the journey of Tanjiro Kamado who became a demon slayer after his family was slaughtered by a demon, with his sister being the only survivor. She has been transformed into a demon but she’s still showing signs of human emotions. This led Tanijiro to go on a mission to turn his sister back into a human again.
“Pokémon” fans need to catch the lesson about geologist Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution in the “Gene-rations: Genetics and Darwinian Evolution in Pokémon” seminar on December 19 at 6 p.m. via Zoom.
“Pokémon” tells the story of a young boy named Ash who dreams of becoming a Pokémon master. He tries to achieve this with the help of Pikachu and his two other friends Misty and Brock as they discover more Pokémon.
The Institute of Biology previously conducted a lecture on the “Whimsical Wildlife of Studio Ghibli.” The Japan-based animated studio is known for its unique storylines that feature magical creatures.
This was not the first time that the department held free lectures that incorporated anime series.
It did seminars on “ecology of Genshin Impact Withering Zones” in 2022 and the “bioenergetics of Hinata Shoyo” from the sports series “Haikyu!!” in 2021.
