BACK in August, Disney released a short 11-second clip with only two words: “Freakier Friday”.
“Things just got freakier,” they wrote in the caption.
“Freakier Friday, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, is coming to theatres in 2025.”
On October 11, they finally announced that the film would be coming to theatres on August 8, 2025.
The original film follows a rebellious teenager Anna, who has a strained relationship with her mother Tess, as the two have very different perspectives and beliefs. Anna is a young teenager who loves rock music and spends her free time practicing playing guitar with her band, while Tess is a psychiatrist who spends the day talking to people in need of help.
One day, however, they swap bodies, and in their quest to get things back to normal, they start to understand each other more and more.
Who’s in it?
This film, released back on August 6, 2003, is one beloved by many, hence why people are so excited to see Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis once again sharing the screen via their eccentric characters.
Aside from Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis coming back to reprise the roles of Anna and Tess, respectively, Chad Michael Murray will also be coming back as Jake, Anna’s love interest in the original film.
It’s unsure though whether anything will happen between them in the new film, seeing as Filipino-Canadian actor Manny Jacinto will be playing Anna’s husband.
Actors Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Sophia Hammons will also be joining the cast, though their roles are yet to be revealed.
Other characters who will be reprising their roles are Tess’s husband Ryan, played by Mark Harmon, Anna’s teacher Mr. Bates, played by Stephen Tobolowsky, and Pei-Pei and her mother, played by Rosalind Chao and Lucille Song.
And of course, Anna’s OG bandmates from “Pink Slip,” Maddie and Peg, will also be played once more by Christina Vidal Mitchell and Haley Hudson, respectively, in the upcoming film.
Freakier Friday plot details
As per a press release from Disney back in June, Freakier Friday will show Anna with a daughter of her own, as well as a soon-to-be stepdaughter.
Given the changes in their lives, as their new families start to merge with one another, both Anna and Tess realize that lightning might just strike twice.
The film is also said to feature a “multigenerational twist.”
