SEPTEMBER will be another fun-filled and exciting month for Filipinos, particularly film enthusiasts, as the country will celebrate the Philippine Film Industry Month (PFIM).
With the theme “Tuloy ang Tradisyon ng Pelikulang Pilipino,” the Film Development Council of the Philippines bared the month-long activities for the fourth PFIM to celebrate Philippine Cinema, which will kick off with a free screening of the 1980 period-drama film “Aguila.”
Helmed by the late National Artist for Film and Broadcast Eddie Romero, the Philippine movie follows Daniel Aguila’s son who embarks on a journey to find him. Along the course, Aguila’s son will unearth his country’s history and his father’s life story, according to IMDb.
“Aguila,” which starred the late “King of Philippine movies” Fernando Poe, Jr., will be screened on September 1 at The Metropolitan Theater, as part of the PFIM’s opening ceremony.
Interested viewers will have to register to secure their seats. Only 200 slots are allotted for the screening.
Lined up activities
From September 4 to 27, the FDCP will hold “Pamanang Pelikula Screenings” at the FDCP Cinematheque Centers in Manila, Iloilo, Davao, Nabunturan, and Negros, where masterpieces of national film legends will be showcased.
There will also be a film pitch seminar workshop, a convention, and talks.
Sine Kabataan Short Film Lab and Festival Screenings and Film Talks, meanwhile, will be held on September 20 to 22 at the Red Carpet Cinema 1, Shangri-La Plaza in Mandaluyong City.
In May, the FDCP announced the 10 official finalists of the seventh Sine Kabataan Short Film Lab and Festival, who received a production grant worth P150,000 and underwent an editing lab with industry experts.
The PFIM will conclude with an awarding ceremony and a filmmakers night at Seda Vertis North in Quezon City on September 27.
About PFIM
In 2021, former President Rodrigo Duterte declared September of every year as the “Philippine Film Industry Month,” by virtue of Proclamation No. 1085.
The FDCP is mandated to lead the PFIM’s observance and “identify the programs, projects, and activities for its celebration.
”The national film agency paid tribute to the iconic Filipino comedians in last year’s celebration of the PFIM, which had the theme “Tuloy pa rin ang Tawanan.”
