FDCP to screen queer films for free for Pride Month 2025 celebration

THE Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) is one with the LGBTQIA+ community in celebrating this year’s Pride month by screening several queer films for free in select local cinemas.

The national film council revealed on Monday, June 16, the complete movie lineup for its “PELIKULAYA: Encounters,” consists of short and full-length classic and contemporary films that highlight “bold and beautiful celebration of LGBTQ+ stories that connect, empower, and inspire.”

“This Pride Month, dive into heartfelt stories, join thought-provoking conversations, and honor love, identity, and community in this year’s curation at Pelikulaya,” the FDCP said in a Facebook post.

Here are the “PELIKULAYA: Encounters” films with free admission and their screening dates:

Full-length classics (July 3 to 12):

  • “Pusong Mamon” by Joel Lamangan and Eric Quizon
  • “Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros” by Auraeus Solito
  • “The Wedding Banquet” by Ang Lee
  • “Rebels of the Neon God” by Tsai Ming-Liang

Full-length contemporary (July 3 to 6):

  • “Lingua Franca” by Isabel Sandoval
  • “Call Me By Your Name” by Luca Guadagnino
  • “Flee” by Jonas Poher Rasmussen
  • “All Shall Be Well” by Ray Yeung
  • “Tangerine” by Sean Baker (to be screened only on July 12)

Embassy screenings (July 3 to 6)

  • “Love & Revolution” by Alejandro Marín
  • “Matthias & Maxime” by Xavier Dolan
  • “Miss Maria, Skirting the Mountain” by Rubén Mendoza

Shorts – Set A (July 3 to 12)

  • “Pagpag” by Jay-r Julio
  • “Ang Halikan sa Water Fountain” by Clyde Gamale
  • “If I Were A Voice” by Denbert Tiamson
  • “Water Sports” by Whammy Alcazaren

Shorts – Set B (July 3 to 12)

  • “Gawad Uliran: The Rise of Superstardom” by Allen Pangilinan and Jego Rafael
  • “Saan Ako Pinaglihi?” by Rafaela Abucejo
  • “Rampage! O Ang Parada” by Kukay Bautista Zinampan

Paid screenings

The FDCP will also screen these three films for P250 as part of “PELIKULAYA: Encounters,” from June 21 to 29:

  • “Young Hearts” by Anthony Schatteman
  • “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” by Céline Sciamma
  • “Pierce” by Nelicia Low

“Young Hearts” is a 2024 coming-of-age drama film that follows a boy named Elias who befriends and falls in love with his new neighbor, Alexander. 

“Portrait of a Lady on Fire” is a 2019 French historical romantic drama film that narrates a brief affair between two young women: Marianne, a painter who is commissioned to paint a portrait of an aristocrat named Héloïse.

Meanwhile, “Pierce” is a 2024 psychological thriller film that tells the story of two brothers: a high school fencer who helps his older brother after he is released from prison.

The FDCP has yet to announce the participating cinemas for “PELIKULAYA: Encounters,” but the council has partnered with SM Cinema, Ayala Malls Cinemas, and Cinematheque Centres.
