In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Spotify’s K-Pop ON! (온), South Korean boy group ENHYPEN has recently dropped their rendition of BTS’ ‘I Need U’ with a twist.
The latest release is an ode to the sunbaes or senior artists in the K-pop industry who inspired the younger groups to pursue their passion for the genre.
In the group’s rendition, the original electronic synth sounds are replaced with acoustic instrumentals for an Afro-rhythm twist.
The cover also presents a more mellow version of the original song, with members performing an emotional and sincere deliverance of the lyrics.
“This Spotify K-Pop ON! (온) Single means so much to us. In addition to bringing ENGENEs (our fans) a new track, this was our chance to tell the stories of our beginnings with K-Pop through a song loved by the members,” said ENHYPEN.
The latest single from the boy group is the first of the three Spotify-exclusive covers as part of K-Pop ON! (온) First Crush campaign.
K-Pop ON! (온) is a flagship playlist launched in 2014 dedicated to giving listeners a platform to discover the hidden gems from the genre. The playlist has been saved by over 5.3 million Spotify users worldwide.
The other two covers will be performed by the girl group STAYC and Shownu and Hyungwon from the group MONSTA X.
The performance video of the single for their Spotify K-Pop ON! (온) will be released on February 17. Behind-the-scenes video is also set to drop on February 21.
ENHYPEN is a seven-piece boy group that debuted in 2020, composed of Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, and Ni-ki. Since their debut, the group has achieved musical milestones and was awarded as the fifth most-streamed K-pop Boy Group on Spotify Wrapped in 2023.
