Ely Buendia to return with new music

by Joanna Deala

ORIGINAL Pinoy Music (OPM) icon Ely Buendia will return to the music scene with a new song titled, “Bulaklak sa Buwan.”

The Eraserheads frontman announced this on social media, saying he had been working on new music and was excited to share it with his fans.

“Bulaklak sa Buwan” will be dropped next Friday, August 16, along with a music video.

The single is part of his new album titled “Method Adaptor,” to be released on November 8.

Further details about the forthcoming single and album have yet to be announced.

“Bulaklak sa Buwan” will follow Buendia’s 2021 song “Metro,” while “Method Adaptor” will be his second album as a solo artist after “Wanted Bedspacer” in 2000.

He also released an album in 2010 titled “In Love & War,” featuring the late “King of Pinoy Rap” Francis Magalona.

Additionally, Buendia is set to perform at the Newport Performing Arts Theater for a concert on September 14.

Continuing popularity

Gen Zs were not yet born when Eraserheads was formed by former University of the Philippines-Diliman students Buendia, Buddy Zabala, Marcus Adoro, and Raimund Marasigan.

However, the alternative rock band’s songs were something that today’s young generation grew up with.

Among their songs that became iconic to the young individuals were “Ang Huling El Bimbo,” “With A Smile,” “Ligaya,” and “Alapaap.”

There was even a musical adaptation of Eraserhead’s discography entitled “Ang Huling El Bimbo,” which premiered in 2018 and ended in 2023.

The longest-running Pinoy production from Newport World Resorts has also become the most-watched Filipino musical to date, captivating hundreds of thousands of theatergoers and millions of online viewers.

In 2022, Buendia and his former bandmates held a reunion concert titled “Huling El Bimbo.”

Eraserheads recently embarked on a world tour, with Honolulu, Hawaii being their last stop “for the time being,” said Buendia.

Eheads documentary

The legendary rock band has a forthcoming documentary titled “Combo On The Run,” directed by award-winning filmmaker Maria Diane Ventura.

The documentary’s trailer featured their early days as a band, the challenges they faced, and how they made a mark on Filipino culture.

“Their real story has remained untold. Until now,” the trailer read.

The clip highlighted several moments in 2022, as the country dealt with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 presidential election.

“In 2022, during a time of uncertainty and political upheaval, this disbanded group of punks reunites to provide solace to a nation. Unknowingly needing healing themselves,” the trailer further read.

It ended with the Eraserheads members being asked: “What’s the most difficult thing you had to overcome for this to happen?”

“Combo On The Run’s” trailer premiered at the San Diego Comic Convention in July.
