IT is Halloween again, which means people across the globe are expected to dress up as their favorite protagonist from a live-action film, a cartoon character, or simply anyone they want to portray for the day.
In the Philippines, creepy mythical creatures, such as aswang, manananggal, tiyanak, and the white lady, take the spotlight every Halloween.
Since Filipinos enjoy getting spooked, “Drag Den” season one contestant Shewarma used satire to bring shivers down the spine: dressing up as “Sarah Disgrasya” for The New Nocturnals Halloween party in Makati on Wednesday.
“Sarah Disgrasya” is a spoof of embattled contractor Sarah Discaya, who is linked to the controversy over the non-existent or “ghost” flood control projects in the country.
For her Halloween costume, Shewarma donned a black dress topped with a white blazer, a short hair wig, and a pair of eyeglasses.
To complete her look, she put a mole on the side of her nose and carried a gold suitcase with the text “Ghost Project” written on it.
Shewarma posted a carousel of photos of her Halloween look on Instagram, with one showing her opening the suitcase containing several thousand pesos.
“Katakot. Korakot,” the drag queen wrote in the caption.
Several Instagram users, including The New Nocturnals party host Raymond Gutierrez, described Shewarma’s “Sarah Disgrasya” as the “scariest” among other Halloween looks at the event.
Before Shewarma, Michael V. impersonated the controversial contractor in an episode of “Bubble Gang” in September. The comedian dressed up as “Ciala Dismaya,” recreating Discaya’s look when she faced the Senate blue ribbon probe on the anomalous flood control projects last month.
The New Nocturnal Halloween party was organized by Gutierrez and Ash Rye, the duo who spearheaded the anticipated Halloween event, The Opulence Ball.
The event was attended by celebrities and content creators—including Andrea Brillantes, Barbie Imperial, Darren Espanto, Francine Diaz, Rufa Gutierrez, and Michelle Dee—who came in their spooky yet fashionable Halloween costumes.
