Divine Divas drops debut single ‘Oh, Divine Diva’

by Joanna Deala

DRAG trio Divine Divas made a splash in the music industry with the release of their debut single “Oh, Divine Diva” this month.

The trio—composed of “Drag Race Philippines” season 1 stars Precious Paula Nicole, Brigiding and Viñas DeLuxe—kicked off the Pride month with a powerful message of empowerment and confidence through the dance-pop track.

In the song’s lyrics, the drag queens talked about having the courage to own the spotlight and having the confidence to face life’s challenges.

The chorus part of the song goes: Oh Divine! Diskartedora, ‘di mo kaya / Agaw eksena, awrang-awra / Taas bandera / I’m Divine Diva / Supernova, bidang-bida / Burn like a lava / Ipaparada ang korona / Oh Divine Diva!

In a press statement, Precious Paula Nicole explained that the song wanted to encourage people to have confidence.

“Tayo ang unang papalakpak sa koronang tayo mismo sa sarili ang nagsuot, unang makakaunawa sa talentong gusto nating ipakita sa mundo at unang tatanggap ng pagkataong gusto nating makilala ng kahit sino. Patuloy nating itaas ang bandera at iparada ang korona. Ipaalala mong wala kang hindi kaya kasi isa kang divine diva,” said the very first winner of “Drag Race Philippines.”

Brigiding and Viñas DeLuxe echoed this, highlighting that their debut single is about “being your own diva and finding your own voice.”

“You are your own diva, wherever you came from, whatever you’ve been through, continue to fight because your perfect time will come,” they stressed.

“Oh, Divine Diva” was composed by Loriebelle Darunday, Elmar Jan Bolano, Justin Ian Catalan and Liza Diño Seguerra. StarPop label head Roque “Rox” Santos produced the song while ABS-CBN Music head Roxy Liquigan and creative director Jonathan Manalo served as its executive producers.

About Divine Divas

The Divine Divas was formed during the COVID-19 pandemic through various Facebook live streams where the drag queens performed and interacted with their fans.

The trio joined the first season of the Filipino version of the “Drag Race” franchise, which aims to find the next drag superstar. The first season saw the Divine Divas competing with drag queens Marina Summers, Eva Le Queen, Xilhouete, Minty Fresh, Lady Morgana, Turing, Gigi Era, Corazon, and Prince.

After a series of unforgettable lip-sync performances and runway challenges, it was Precious Paula Nicole who emerged victorious in the inaugural season of “Drag Race Philippines.” Marina Summers finished as runner-up.

The reality competition opened more opportunities for the drag trio. In 2023, they hosted a viewing party called “D’ Intervention” in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, where they celebrated the art and advocacy of drag.

In a previous interview with republicasia, Viñas DeLuxe, who advocates for HIV awareness, shared that they are volunteers of LoveYourself, a community that provides free HIV testing, counseling, treatment, and life coaching in the country.

”Kapag mas alam natin kung anong meron sa’tin, mas madali nating masosolusyunan yung mga problems,” Viñas DeLuxe said, as she encouraged people to get tested.

Precious Paula Nicole and Brigiding said they support the Golden Gays, a community of older LGBTQIA+ members in the Philippines.

The “Drag Race Philippines” season 1 winner shared that she has a passion project called “Precious Foundation,” which she started after participating in the reality competition. Through this, Precious Paula Nicole hopes to build a permanent home for the Golden Gays.

Aside from helping Precious Paula Nicole with her passion project, Brigiding said that she hopes to inspire young drag queens and provide more platforms for them.

This year, the trio opened their local drag club called RAMPA in Quezon City.
