‘Disney’s Snow White’ to bring magic to PH cinemas starting March 19

ANOTHER Disney film will bring nostalgia to Filipino Gen Zs and millennials this month, reimagining one of the renowned fairytales they grew up with.

Disney announced that “Disney’s Snow White,” a live-action adaptation of the beloved 1937 classic, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” will be shown in Philippine cinemas starting March 19.

The 2025 adaptation is a musical fantasy film directed by Marc Webb, who also directed the hit romantic comedy film “500 Days of Summer” and two Marvel movies “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.”

“Disney’s Snow White” follows a princess named Snow White who joins forces with seven dwarfs—Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, and Dopey—to take back and free her kingdom from her stepmother, the Evil Queen.

The film’s official trailer shows Snow White being advised to escape into the woods away from the Evil Queen who is obsessed with being “the fairest of them all.” In the forest, the princess meets a group of animals that accompany her to a house inhabited by the seven dwarfs.

Actress Rachel Zegler, known for her role in “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” takes on the titular character, while Gal Gadot, known for her performance in “Wonder Woman,” plays the Evil Queen.

“Having a female character at the forefront of your story whose entire purpose is to be fearless, fair, brave, and true is unlike anything that I’ve ever seen before, and I am very excited for the next generation of moviegoers to see that,” Zegler said in a press statement.

New character, music

While the film honors the DNA of “Snow White,” the forthcoming musical fantasy film adds new elements to the story to fit the modern setting.

“The original ‘Snow White’ didn’t break the mold—it created the mold. But there was also an opportunity to retell the mythology in a way that reflects the times we’re in, and I think all good stories evolve over time,” Webb said.

Among the things to look forward to in this modern retelling of the classic fairytale is a new character named Jonathan, portrayed by actor Andrew Burnap.

In the fairytale, Snow White falls in love with a prince who saves her with a true love’s first kiss. But in “Disney’s Snow White,” Jonathan is Snow White’s new love interest.

“Disney’s Snow White” will also feature new original songs, including “Waiting on a Wish” performed by Zegler and written by Oscar- and Tony-award-winning composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

“Waiting on a Wish” is now available on music streaming platforms.
