THE queen of glam is back, and this time, she’s taking the stage!
Die Beautiful, a 2016 acclaimed film by Director Jun Robles Lana, is getting a musical adaptation set to take the spotlight this 2025.
During the press interview for the play Anino sa Likod ng Buwan on February 8, Lana, co-artistic director of IdeaFirst Live with Elmer Gatchalian, revealed that the company’s next project in 2025 will be Die Beautiful: The Musical.
He said that Rody Vera, his co-writer in the film, would be set to write the script.
“We chose to begin our live production with Anino sa Likod ng Buwan because we just want to be very clear about who we are and what we stand for as a company. If we go into musicals, the kind of materials that we will do would be something like Die Beautiful,” said Lana.
IdeaFirst Live is the theatrical arm of The IdeaFirst Company, recognized for its film and television projects like ‘Becky & Badette’ and, more recently, the Metro Manila Film Festival entry ‘And the Bread Winner Is…’
“That’s who we are as a company and as entertainers. But definitely, isa sa mga gusto naming gawin is gumawa pa ng mga original materials for the stage, hindi lang dahil iyong nagawa naming pelikula naging successful, gagawan namin ng stage adaptation. Right now, may mga dine-develop na rin kami na original materials,” Lana added.
Die Beautiful is a comedy-drama film that centers around queer experiences. It tells the life and death of Trisha Echevarria, a transgender woman and beauty queen who dreams of being crowned as Miss Gay Philippines. It employs a non-linear narrative that begins in Trisha’s wake, portraying her journey and self-discovery, and the struggles she faced as a part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The excitement for the musical is quite high, so is the expectation that surrounds it. The 2016 film garnered recognition both nationally and internationally for its portrayal of the queer experience.
Meanwhile, details about the cast and the lineup of creative team members have yet to be revealed.
