“Crunchyroll is thrilled to be able to bring this trilogy of films to fans, on the big screen, and it promises to be one of the truly epic and consequential pop cultural events of our time when it hits cinemas,” said Rahul Purini, President of animation entertainment company, Crunchyroll.
Filipino netizens welcomed the confirmation with hype. According to Facebook user Mar Vin, “Ufotable never failed to not just meet but exceed our expectations always. We’re so thrilled watching every single episode especially this one. Congrats.”
“Goosebumps yung bawat scene sa last episode ng arc na ito. Excited na ako for the next arc!!! Grabe!!!” Netizen Nuwel Villarojo said.
Multiple users also commented “Unlimited Budget Works” under the announcement denoting the expected costs for the quality of production to be in the extremes. This is about one of ufotable’s past work, “Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works.”
Studio ufotable is famous for animating and producing high-quality animated works, most notably the “Fate” franchise. It was also the studio behind “Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train” which remains the highest-grossing anime movie and Japanese film in the global box office, with $500 million gathered so far.
Manga readers regard the “Infinity Castle Arc”, which the movies will be about, as a highly anticipated part of the Demon Slayer story as it includes climactic developments and confrontations between the cast and the saga’s greatest villains. The arc requiring three movies and an increased quality of animation provides fans with anticipation that the trilogy may exceed Mugen Train.
Demon Slayer follows the story of Kamado Tanjiro who joins the Demon Slayer Corps after his family is killed, looking for a way to turn his younger sister back after she becomes a demon. The animation debuted in April 2019 in Japan, and has consistently gained the top spots in Netflix Philippines TV shows every time a new season is released.
Mainly streaming on Crunchyroll in collaboration with Aniplex and Sony Pictures Entertainment, the anime is based off of Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga series under the same name, published under Shuiesha’s JUMP COMICS. Since its 2018 debut, it has had 23 volumes and 150 million copies in publication.
