Christian Bautista to young artists: Keep on creating

by Joanna Deala

THERE will be a point in an aspiring young artist’s life when they feel discouraged about their craft. While this is a part of the process, it should not be the reason for them to stop pursuing the career they love.

This was the advice of “Asia’s Romantic Balladeer” Christian Bautista, telling young artists who aspire to build their names in the music scene to just continue doing their craft.

“Keep on creating, honing your craft, don’t be scared, release it to the world, to the wild. Pray, trust, have faith, and it’s for you, it’s gonna happen,” Bautista said in an interview with republicasia on Saturday.

The 41-year-old singer performed live at 19 East in Muntinlupa on October 7, with singers Marcus Ravago, Mark Cordovales, and Amy Nobleza.

Bautista celebrated his 20th anniversary in the music industry, with “The Way You Look At Me” concert in January 2023.

The OPM singer also shared the biggest lesson he learned in his two decades of experience in the Philippine music scene: acknowledging that “there will always be ups and downs” in life.

“This is cliché, pero when you’re up, celebrate it, live the moment,” he said.

“When you’re down, learn from it, pick yourself up, and balik lang, tuloy ka lang,” he added.

Bautista also saw how the music industry evolved and introduced many new artists to the world.

“It’s amazing now what’s happening. So many genres, so many bands, soloists, groups, and talagang anyone from anywhere can make a record, release it, and have a moment, have this wonderful moment to shine,” he said.

In the next five years, the seasoned singer hopes to see new Filipino artists enter and build their own names in the music scene.

“Lalaki pa yan, dadami pa yan,” he said, continuing, “We are already recognized [all over the world], pero even more.”

During the musical event, Bautista serenaded his fans with Rivermaya’s “Liwanag Sa Dilim” and sang “Beautiful Girl” to his wife.

Bautista is one of the hosts of the weekend variety show “All-Out Sundays” on GMA Network. He was also one of the mentors in the musical competition “The Clash,” which held its grand finale in May 2023.
