Celebrities join relief efforts, raise funds for tropical storm Kristine victims

by Joanna Deala

FILIPINOS are joining hands to deliver aid to the victims of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, and among them are young celebrities including Donny Pangilinan, P-pop groups BINI and SB19, and even K-pop girl group UNIS.

In a Facebook post shared by Angat Buhay, the “Can’t Buy Me Love” actor was seen personally delivering boxes of relief goods to the non-profit organization’s office in Quezon City. The donations will be handed to areas that are hardly hit by the typhoon, including the Bicol Region.

“Maraming salamat sa walang sawang pakikipagbayanihan, Donny!” the organization said.

Pangilinan has been participating in the relief operations of Angat Buhay to help typhoon victims. In July, he assisted in the preparation and distribution of rice porridge to individuals affected by Super Typhoon Carina.

BINI, SB19’s donation drives

Meanwhile, P-pop sensations BINI and SB19 teamed up with their fandoms—Blooms and A’TIN, respectively—to launch donation drives for the victims of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

The “Nation’s Girl Group,” together with Bloom Philippines, launched the “BINIyanihan” initiative to accept monetary and in-kind donations for the affected individuals.

They accept toiletries and hygiene kits, towels or blankets, toothbrushes, sanitary pads, vitamins, and ready-to-eat food in-kind donations. These will be delivered to the typhoon victims in Bicol.

The “BINIyanihan” initiative will accept donations until October 26.

On the other hand, SB19 and A’TIN launched the “18 Donation Drive” to accept in-kind donations at the Yellow Gate, Araneta Coliseum from October 26 to 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

They are accepting ready-to-eat foods, rice, bottled water, sanitary kits, face masks, and alcohol. Personal belongings like clothes, shoes, and bags will not be accepted.

These two donation drives were also activated when Super Typhoon Carina wreaked havoc in the country, leaving dozens of fatalities and billions worth of damages.

Fan concert proceeds as donation

K-pop girl group UNIS, which has three Filipina members, is here in the country for their “CURIOUSland” fan concert.

Aside from meeting their fans, the eight-piece group plans to grab this opportunity to help affected Filipinos by donating a portion of their earnings from their event.

UNIS’ leader, Filipina-Korean Jin Hyeon-ju, announced this through an interpreter during their press conference on Thursday, hoping that there wouldn’t be “much damage to those who were affected by the typhoon.”

Pinay member Elisia Parmisano, meanwhile, said, “UNIS are praying and hoping that you guys and your loved ones are safe and sound, and we hope that you guys find the strength and resilience, and of course, hope. Just know that help is underway.”

The “CURIOUSland” fan concert will be held at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City on Friday, October 25.

State weather bureau PAGASA forecasted Severe Tropical Storm Kristine to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) within the day.
