MILLIONS after millions, two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo’s incentives have now crossed the 100 million peso mark, when the Senate of the Philippines held a ceremonial turnover to pay homage to Filipino Olympians.
Yulo received two large checks worth P1.5 million each, for a total of P3 million, at the plenary session on Monday, adding to his already extensive list of incentives and recognitions.

The Filipino gymnast received a Medal of Excellence in addition to cash incentives for his double gold medal achievement in the artistic gymnastics floor exercise and vault events at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero personally presented the recognition. The medal was founded in 2021 and was first presented to the country’s first Olympic gold medalist, Hidilyn Diaz.
Regardless if they won gold or not, the Philippine Senate awarded Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas the Medal of Excellence. They also won P1 million for winning a bronze medal in their respective boxing weight classes.
Recognizing the Olympians
The Senate passed four resolutions honoring the three medalists, the whole Philippine Centennial Team, the Philippine Olympic Committee, and the Philippine Sports Commission.
Just last week, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and the First Family hosted a Heroes’ Welcome at Malacañang Palace for returning Filipino Olympians.
Allowing them to celebrate their homecoming, greeted by their families, and having the incentives provided by the President’s Office doubled by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.
The following day, the city of Manila held a Heroes’ Parade. The Olympians were greeted warmly by the Manileños as they traversed the metro’s crowded streets.
More incentives
On top of the P20 million allocated by Republic Act 10699, generally known as the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act, Yulo’s incentives continue to expand over time.
The Golden Boy’s bonuses have already exceeded $100 million. Earlier that day, Yulo received P2 million from his birthplace, Manila City, led by Mayor Honey Lacuna.

“Congratulations Caloy! Proud ang buong Maynila sa determinasyon at lakas na iyong ipinakita sa nakaraang Paris 2024 Olympics,” says Manila Mayor Lacuna on her Facebook post.
“Ang pangalan mo ay nakatatak na hindi lamang sa kasaysayan ng Maynila, kundi ng buong bansa! Nawa’y magsilbi kang inspirasyon sa marami pang nangangarap na Manileño.”
Meanwhile, the Manila Mayor is also supportive on the idea of declaring August 4 as “Carlos Yulo Day” to commemorate the day he won a double Olympic gold medal.
