CARLOS YULO plans to compete in three major international artistic gymnastics competitions in 2025, hoping to repeat or improve on his achievement at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Slowing down and recuperating have no place in Yulo’s 2025 plans, as he is more motivated than ever to recreate his historic feat at the 2025 Los Angeles Olympics with a harder program next year.
“May gusto ako salihang competition pero tatlo lang po sasalihan ko: Asian Championships, World Championships, and SEA Games,” Yulo said during the side an exclusive tour of an ice cream company.
According to the Olympics, Yulo’s next goal is to win a medal in the individual all-around and defend his gold medals in floor and vault. However, he also stated that it is about the experience rather than the medals.
Built for the moment
Nonetheless, the Golden Boy has been the most successful artistic gymnast in the country. He has won two golds, two silvers, and two bronze medals in the World Championships.
Meanwhile, he competed in the Asian Championships, winning ten golds, two silvers, and one bronze medal in total. He won nine gold medals and nine silver medals at the Southeast Asian Games.
This is in addition to the two gold medals he won in the Paris Games this year, and he now has 39 medals from various international competitions in his brief career.
When he competes in 2025, he should expect the same level of pressure as in previous years. However, given his Olympic past, Yulo will face more challenges in the next few years.
Relieving pressure on his shoulder, the Filipino gymnast chose to rest following his tough Olympic cycle this year. However, he is willing to flip the switch and begin training as early as November.
“Siguro mga late November mag-start na ako pakonti-konti. Pero mag-start na po talaga ako 2025 na po, January dun mag-start mga training camps,” Yulo shared.
Another incentive
The Olympians continue to receive incentives, as the ice cream firm where Yulo disclosed his ambitions presented him with a 2 million peso check and a year’s supply of ice cream.
Nesthy Petecio and Eumir Marcial, both Olympians, joined the tour, as did Cynthia Carrion, head of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines.
Petecio, who won a bronze medal in Olympic boxing, received 300,000 pesos, and Marcial was given special appreciation for his achievements.
