BTS’ V to Throw First Pitch at Los Angeles Dodgers Game

by Rescel Ocampo

V, member of the South Korean Boy Group BTS, will throw the ceremonial first pitch when the Los Angeles Dodgers face the Cincinnati Reds on August 25.

On Instagram, Major League Baseball confirmed that the K-pop idol will take the mound for the ceremonial first pitch when the Dodgers face the Cincinnati Reds.

“ARMY, you ready? V will be at Dodger Stadium on 8/25 to throw out the ceremonial first pitch,” captioned Dodgers.

According to StubHub, sales for the Dodgers-Reds matchup on August 25 soared nearly five times higher shortly after V’s participation was announced, briefly overwhelming the site as fans rushed to secure tickets.

“Dodgers ticket sales jumped 5× overnight on StubHub after V from BTS was announced to throw the first pitch on August 25th, making the Dodgers the #1 most searched MLB team this week,” said StubHub.

Son Heung-min (33), captain of the South Korean national football team and current forward for Los Angeles FC, will also take the mound just two days after V’s appearance.

The football star has already started training with a baseball glove for his ceremonial pitch, invited by Major League Baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers.

The ceremonial first pitch has been a long-standing tradition in Major League Baseball since President William Howard Taft threw the very first one in 1910.

Over the decades, U.S. presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Barack Obama have stepped onto the mound, turning the ritual into a symbol of cultural and political visibility.

Over time, it expanded beyond politics, with celebrities—from Hollywood stars to athletes—taking the mound.

K-pop idols have also joined in, such as Tiffany of Girls’ Generation in 2013, making V the latest to carry the tradition onto the global stage.
