BTS, SEVENTEEN’s choreographer to hold dance workshop in Manila

by Joanna Deala

FILO K-pop fans, get ready to release that super “ener-energy” in you as Youngjun Choi, the choreographer of K-pop powerhouses BTS and SEVENTEEN, is set to hold a dance workshop in the Philippines.

In collaboration with Enderun Colleges, Choi, dubbed the “Father of K-pop,” will conduct a two-day K-pop dance workshop on December 5 and 6 at the Enderun Basketball Court in McKinley Hill, Taguig.

Initially, the December 25 workshop was only meant for participants aged 15 to 21 years old, requiring them to bring valid school IDs.

However, the world-class undergraduate college relented and said on Wednesday that the dance classes will now be open to all ages “due to popular demand.”

Interested participants will have to pay P2,000 each and register through this link. Limited slots are available on a first-paid basis.

Enderun Colleges said the 90-minute workshop will conclude with a “professionally filmed dance” featuring the participants’ dancing prowess.

About the choreographer

Choi is one of the renowned choreographers in the K-pop scene, with over 300 dance pieces under his name throughout his career.

Among the iconic songs he choreographed were SEVENTEEN’s “Super,” BTS’ “I Need U,” Wanna One’s “Energetic,” and TWS’ “Plot Twist.”

Choi revealed in an interview that if he were to choose the hardest dance piece he ever created, it would be the high-powered choreography of SEVENTEEN’s “Super.”

The choreographer shared that it took him a lot of time to choreograph for 41 individuals, including SEVENTEEN members, for “Super’s” live performance. Not to mention the 241 dancers he had to guide for the hit song’s music video.

Choi is also the leader of TEAM SAME and a board member of 1MILLION Dance Studio. 1MILLION, along with Choi, participated in the South Korean dance competition show “Street Man Fighter” in 2022, where they vied for the title of Korea’s best male dance crew.

He appeared as a dance mentor in the 2023 South Korean survival reality show “Boys Planet,” which formed K-pop boy group Zerobaseone (ZB1).
