K-POP icon BoA is set to undergo surgery after being diagnosed with acute osteonecrosis in her knee, leading to the cancellation of her upcoming solo concert in Seoul this August.
Osteonecrosis is a condition where reduced blood flow causes bone tissue to die, potentially leading to joint damage or bone collapse.
BoA sought medical attention after experiencing persistent knee pain, which escalated in recent weeks.
SM Entertainment confirmed the news.
“This was a difficult decision made with the artist’s health as our top priority, and we ask for your understanding,” they said in an official statement.
Despite the canceled concert, BoA’s new album Crazier, released in celebration of her 25th anniversary, will still drop as planned. The agency said future live performance schedules will be announced depending on her recovery.
BoA, born Kwon Bo-ah, debuted in 2000 at the age of 13 with her first studio album ID; Peace B.
She quickly rose to prominence in South Korea and Japan, becoming one of the first Korean artists to successfully break into the Japanese music market.
BoA is credited with paving the way for future generations of Korean artists to pursue careers overseas.
Her discography includes hit songs such as “No. 1,” “Valenti,” “Atlantis Princess,” “Milky Way,” and “Only One,” among others.
She has also been active as a judge on survival shows and continues to play a key role in SM Entertainment’s artist development.
