BLACKPINK’s Lisa is the first K-pop idol to perform at the Oscars

by Joanna Deala

THERE is no stopping LISA of K-pop powerhouse BLACKPINK from owning 2025!

Lisa is set to make another history, this time, as the first K-pop artist to perform at The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, considered one of the most prestigious awards in the film industry.

In a video teaser on social media, The Academy revealed that Lisa will be joined by rapper Doja Cat and singer-songwriter RAYE, whom she collaborated with for her latest single “Born Again.”

“Three global superstars. One epic Oscars moment. Doja Cat, Lisa of BLACKPINK, and RAYE take the stage for a showstopping celebration of cinema,” it wrote.

In a reply on X (formerly Twitter), The Academy said the trio won’t perform “Born Again” but something that is “still legendary.”

One netizen asked if they would cover a song or tease about “an upcoming cinematic project,” but the Oscars refused to reveal further details.

Aside from the trio, “Wicked” stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo and rapper Queen Latifah will perform at the awards night.

The 2025 Academy Awards will be held on March 2 (March 3 in the Philippines) at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

Filipinos can watch the live stream of the 97th Oscars, from the red carpet to the awards ceremony, via online streaming app Disney+.

The 2025 Oscars will kick off with the red carpet at 7:30 a.m. on Monday (Philippine time), hosted by “Safe Haven” actress Julianne Hough and “The Bachelor” host Jesse Palmer.

It will be followed by the awards ceremony at 8:00 a.m., hosted by Emmy Award-winning television host Conan O’Brien.

In January, the Oscars released the full list of its 2025 nominees. Among them is the 2024 musical fantasy film “Wicked,” which earned 10 nominations including Best Picture and Best Actress for Cynthia.

Debut studio album

Before the 97th Oscars, Lisa is set to drop her debut studio album “Alter Ego” on February 28.

Lisa unveiled the full track list of her album in a video teaser that showcased her five alter egos: Roxi, Sunni, Kiki, Speedi, and Vixi.

“Alter Ego” will feature 15 songs, including “Born Again” and her 2024 singles “Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me),” “New Woman (featuring Rosalía),” and “Rockstar.”

It also contains the K-pop idol’s collaboration songs with several international hitmakers, including rapper Megan Thee Stallion for “rapunzel,” singer Tyla for “when i’m with you,” and rapper Future for “FXCK UP THE WORLD.”
