Best-dressed women of 2024 Oscars

by RepublicAsia

IT WAS another night of thank-you speeches and fancy clothes. Men dressed in their best suits while women dressed in the most lavish of gowns. The women, most especially, took home the gold, not just because of their films but also because of their dresses. That was what happened on March 10, 2024 at the 96th Academy Awards, best known as “The Oscars.”

There were many amazing gowns during the night but several winners wore some of the best outfits while claiming their awards. From best actress to best original song, these women took home their trophies with style and finesse.

Billie Eilish

First, we have American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish, who took home the Oscar for Best Original Song with her brother, FINNEAS.

The original song is called “What Was I Made For” from “Barbie” but you might recognize this song as it was all over social media, seen in many different TikTok videos and reels.

This is not Eilish’s first time winning awards: she has won Grammys such as Artist of the Year, Song of the Year which she won for “bad guy” and “What was I Made For,” and Album of the Year for her albums “WHEN DO WE FALL ASLEEP” and “WHERE DO WE GO?”, along with many more. She also won Best Original Song at the Golden Globes as well as the Satellite Awards.

She accepted the award in a white button-down blouse and dark blue blazer with a small red pin on the lapel which she matched with her brother. The main draw of her outfit was her tweed black-and-white Chanel skirt that she paired with a small handbag of the same style. To complete the look, she wore black shoes with long white socks, giving her a cute schoolgirl aesthetic.

America Ferrera

Next, we have one of the nominees for best supporting actress, America Ferrera, who was nominated for her role as Gloria in “Barbie.” Though she didn’t win, (the award went to Da ’Vine Joy Randolph who we will discuss later), she took it in stride and style.

Her style was a tight Barbie-inspired Versace chainmail dress which was pink and sparkly, accentuating her amazing shape. The dress was the most Barbie-chic, giving her a win in the style department.

Aside from this nomination, she was nominated in the Satellite Awards and the Critics’ Choice in the same category for her role as Gloria. She was previously nominated for her roles in “The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants,” for awards like “Best Supporting Actress” and “Movie Breakout Star.” She had also received nominations and awards for her role in “Ugly Betty” where she played the main role. An award she has won for her role as Betty Suarez (lead in “Ugly Betty”) was the Outstanding Leading Actress in a Comedy in 2007 and a nomination for the same category in the following year.

Sandra Hüller

Now we have Best Actress nominee, German actress Sandra Hüller. She was nominated for her role in “Anatomy of the Fall,” where she played Sandra Voyter.

She was one of the best-dressed ladies of the night, opting to wear a minimalist off-shoulder black dress from Schiaparelli. The dress stood out for its wide butterfly neckline that adorned her chest and broadened her shoulders, highlighting her slim figure. The dress was a simple but powerful piece, showing that sometimes you don’t need a loud and puffy dress to make a statement—minimalist colors with one dramatic point are enough.

Aside from her Oscar nod, she was also nominated best actress, still for her role “Anatomy of the Fall,” across different European awards such as the BAFTAs, German Film Award, and the European Film Award, the latter of which she won. She has also received a Golden Globe nomination for this film. She has also won an award at the Berlin International Film Festival for her role in “Requiem.”

Da’Vine Joy Randolph

We’re moving on to the women who won the awards and stole the show with their memorable outfits. First, we have the Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The Holdovers” as Mary Lamb, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who was emotional when she was awarded. She kept her composure and maintained a beautiful and stunning appearance.

For this ceremony, she wore a frosty blue Louis Vuitton dress with a long train and fluffy sleeves. It was also bold and elegant enough to make us remember her for many award shows to come.

Interestingly, this is her first season of award shows sweeping Best Supporting Actress wins for her role in “The Holdovers” at awards like the Golden Globes, Satellite Awards, Critics Choice Awards and many more.

Emma Stone

Emma Stone also graced the Oscars with her amazing mint-green peplum dress also made by Louis Vuitton. It was a light-green dress with a puffy mini skirt right in the middle and a longer slimmer skirt underneath it. The dress was another minimalist piece that highlighted Stone’s beauty and star power. This was her look when she accepted her Best Actress award for her role as Bella Baxter in “Poor Things.”

Stone is no stranger to the awards show scene. She has won Best Actress awards for her role in “Poor Things” and “La La Land” which she won at the Golden Globe and the BAFTAs. For her role in “La La Land,” she won Best Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role at the Screen Actors Guild Award and Volpi Cup Best Actress. She has also won Outstanding Performance of a Cast in a Motion Picture as part of the casts of “Birdman” and “The Help.” She has also won awards for Best Performance and Favorite Actress for her roles in “Easy A,” “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” and “The Amazing Spiderman 2.”

It was another night to celebrate talented women for their incredible contributions to the film industry last year. Whether they won or not, they all still looked stunning and got a well-deserved recognition.
