IT’S THAT time of year again, when the sun shines differently, the temperature warms up, and the beach vibes call to you. Just like before, the most common question on everyone’s mind is if their body is beach-ready.
Whether you want to relax on Boracay’s pristine beaches, catch some waves in Siargao, or simply enjoy the tropical climate, having a beach-ready figure is something we all want to achieve.
The pressure to appear a specific way when putting on a swimsuit or trunks can be overwhelming. However, becoming “in shape” for the season is more than just aiming for perfection or unrealistic beauty standards.
It’s about feeling your best, moving your body, and getting ready for a season of fun in the sun. Being in shape can improve your energy, confidence, and overall well-being on a daily basis; all you have to do is start working out.
Just Show Up
While most of us desire to get in better shape, it can be difficult to exercise consistently and stay motivated in reality. It could be owing to a busy school year or a lack of free time after work.
Julius Nakpil, a 26-year-old Gen Z fitness coach, offered some advice in an interview with republicasia. He stated that if you want to have a beach-body shape, the perfect time to begin working out is now.
“There is no better time to start working out and becoming healthy than now,” Nakpil said. “Discipline over motivation. Even when you don’t feel like it, show up. The future version of you will thank you for it.”

However, Nakpil emphasized that even if you begin exercising now, the results may be different from person to person. This is owing to the fact that everyone’s body has a significant difference.
“It depends on the person. Meron tayong tinatawag na newbie gains ito yung sudden increase in strength and muscle mass of people who are new to weightlifting or are in their early stages of working out,” he said
“If bago lang kayo sa pag wo-workout, I highly recommend you to take full advantage of this. In terms sa pagiging lean depende din ito sa body fat percentage ng isang tao.”
“The higher body fat percentage, need natin i-manage ang expectations dahil mas matagal ‘yon kaysa sa mas mababa ang body fat percentage,” he went on to explain.
Change of Routines
Nakpil is a male physique athlete who earned a gold medal in the 2024 Natural Bodybuilding Philippines. These are some of the fitness routines he recommends to help you keep in shape while at home.
“Calisthenics exercises are very convenient because you can perform them anytime and anywhere,” Nakpil said.
“Start with your favorite variation of push ups followed by bench dips to target your upper body specifically chest, shoulder, and triceps. Transition to squats and lunges to work your lower body focusing on your legs and glutes.”
“Lastly, finish it with some russian twist and plank to strengthen your core. Perform each exercise for 30-40 seconds and do it for 2-4 sets, depending on your fitness level,” he added.

Meanwhile, some Gen Zs have already entered the workforce, and it might be difficult to stay active when you have a full day at work. Not only is your schedule tight, but you are also exhausted during the day.
However, a healthier lifestyle is still possible while working. Nakpil explained that making simple modifications to your work practices can help you live a more active and healthier lifestyle.
“To promote activity outside of dedicated workout times, incorporate simple stretches into your work day. Set hourly reminders on your phone for you to move,” the fitness coach shared.
“During lunch breaks naman, take a walk to refresh your mind and body. Kapag possible naman at di nag mamadali use the stairs instead of the elevator,” he went on to explain.
Consistency Over Perfection
In the end, consistency is the most vital aspect of getting in shape and ready for the beach. It’s not about going to the gym every day or maintaining a tight, meticulous schedule.
It’s about showing up for yourself and sticking to your goals, no matter how small they appear. Celebrate the small wins, whether it’s going for an extra lap, holding a plank for 30 seconds longer, or simply getting to your gym every week.
“You have to set a goal and be disciplined enough to do it consistently. You can consider having a gym buddy, kasi it’s fun kapag may kasama ka, may ka-kwentuhan, kasama sa struggles and breaking gym records,” he said.
“Plan your week ahead by cooking your own meals. It’s fun preparing your meals kasi mas makakamura ka compared sa pagbili sa labas. Choice mo rin kung ano ‘yung mga ingredients na gagamitin mo.”

“Take progress pics, pwede ka din gumawa ng mga reels or TikTok. Iyang mga simpleng na bagay ‘yan nakaka-help para mas ma-feel good tayo sa sarili kaya tayo mas nagiging motivated,” he went on.
Beach season is about enjoying the sun, sand, and water, not worrying about how your body looks. Get in shape because it makes you feel stronger, more invigorated, and ready to take on all of the fun that the beach offers.
Instead of focusing on unrealistic goals, get in shape in a way that is enjoyable, sustainable, and motivating. Having stated that, embrace your journey, be consistent, and enjoy the experience.
