Baguio Mansion’s Christmas tree opens to the public

by Deanna Macaranas

EVER since, the Baguio House Mansion has always been a popular holiday attraction for both locals and tourists, and for this upcoming Christmas season–Baguio has Christmas tree viewing for the public to visit.

The tree lighting ceremony will be led by First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos on Wednesday evening where she will be accompanied by Education Secretary Sonny Angara, former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong.

The Christmas tree decoration will be up in the Baguio Mansion until the first week of January 2025 and is open to the public until 8 pm.

Baguio City is fast becoming known as the “Christmas Capital of the Philippines,” according to Al Valenciano of Malacañang Heritage Tours.

”What better way to celebrate it by lighting the Christmas Tree for the first time here after being fully adjusted for the pandemic,” Valenciano said.

Deputy Social Secretary Dina Arroyo Tantoco, the 38 lanterns that are used to decorate the Christmas tree are created by high school students across the country.

”The parols on the tree this year are entries from our nationwide parol making competition,” Tantoco told reporters.

For the first time since 1908, the Baguio Mansion House is open to the public this year.

Those who will be will be serenaded by the University of Baguio Voices Chorale before the lighting ceremony. The crowd will also be  treated to Christmas tunes performed by the Philippine Military Academy Marching Band.
