‘Bad Genius’ PH adaptation drops teaser

by Rescel Ocampo

READY your cheat sheets—just kidding (don’t!). The Filipino remake of Bad Genius: The Series is officially in session, and its first teaser has us on the edge of our seats.

Released by Studio Viva and Viva One on June 17, the gripping trailer offers a first look at Atasha Muhlach in her full-time acting debut as Lin—the brilliant student with a morally gray side hustle: academic cheating, but make it stylish and high-stakes.

In the trailer, we get a glimpse of Lin in an intense exam scene as she subtly lends a helping hand to Grace (Hyacinth Callado) during an exam.

She is joined by Gab Lagman as Pay, the charming yet cunning role originally portrayed by James Teeradon in the Thai original.

Meanwhile, Jairus Aquino joins the classroom chaos as Bank, the brainiac with a chip on his shoulder.

Bad Genius: The Series is helmed by director Derick Cabrido and will stream exclusively on Viva One starting July 2025.

Rounding out this high-risk, high-reward ensemble are veteran names and scene-stealers: Ruffa Gutierrez, Irma Adlawan, Romnick Sarmenta, Yayo Aguila, Joko Diaz, and Lander Vera Perez, alongside fresh faces like Keagan de Jesus, Gold Aceron, and Alex Payan.

Originally produced by Thailand’s GDH 559 and Jor Kwang Films, Bad Genius made waves internationally for its clever twist on the academic thriller. Since then, it’s been reimagined for Thai TV and even adapted in India and the U.S.

Now, it’s the Philippines’ turn to outsmart the system.
