Australia cancels Kanye West’s visa over controversial Hitler song

by Rescel Ocampo

AMERICAN rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, was denied entry to Australia, following his release of “Heil, Hitler”, an anti-semitic song.

Immigration Minister Tony Burke has released the news, claiming that the singer’s song was promoting Nazism.

“He’s made a lot of offensive comments that my officials looked at again once he released [that] song,” said Burke in a statement with ABC’s Afternoon Briefing.

The song was released months after Ye posted anti-semitic comments on X (formerly Twitter), including proclamations such as “I love Hitler” and “I’m a Nazi.”

“He’s got family here … It wasn’t a visa for the purpose of concerts. It was a lower-level [visa] and the officials still looked at the law and said if you’re going to have a song and promote that sort of Nazism, we don’t need that in Australia,” he added.

Ye’s wife, Bianca Censori, whom he married in 2022 is from Melbourne. She and Ye had been coming to Australia for a long time.

The track, which features a disturbing music video showing men in animal skins chanting “Heil Hitler,” was met with immediate international backlash and was swiftly removed from major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.

Critics and civil rights groups denounced it as blatant Nazi glorification, prompting bans not just in Australia but also in countries like Germany where Nazi symbols and propaganda are illegal.
