Multinational tech company ASUS culminates its partnership with non-profit organization Communities Organized for Resource Allocation (CORA) after a successful series of activities aiming to reduce plastic waste and promote environmental sustainability.
The ASUS x CORA sustainability campaign that involved ASUS employees, partners, dealers, and volunteers collected a landmark 1.67 tons of plastic and other recyclable waste.
The campaign spanned three phases with each phase focusing on various stakeholders and agendas such as educating people on eco-conscious lifestyle, reducing waste, and raising awareness about circular economy and climate action.
“We are immensely thankful for everyone, including our partner CORA, the ASUS Philippines employees, our partners, dealers, and all the Filipinos who helped us in this meaningful mission to protect and save our environment through recycling plastic and other everyday waste,” ASUS Philippines Country Manager George Su said.
Eco-friendly laptops
In 2007, ASUS launched its first sustainable notebook, the ASUS Bamboo Series.
It was highly recognized for its revolutionary engineering, receiving numerous environmental awards and certifications.
Early this year, the tech company launched Zenbook S 13 OLED, the most sustainable Zenbook so far, underscoring the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
The newly released product is an eco-friendly device as it yields a positive environmental impact throughout its production cycle.
Zenbook laptops served as one of the primary tools in conducting a series of events in the ASUS x CORA campaign.
Circular economy workshop
For the first phase of the project, ASUS held a knowledge-sharing activity on the plastic situation.
Dubbed ASUStainable Solution: Circular Economy Starts with Us, CORA and Circular Center Women Champions (CCWC) educated ASUS employees on how they could contribute to a circular economy.
Circular economy is a system where products are kept in circulation through recycling, reusing, and refurbishing to reduce material waste.
The eco-workshop encouraged attendees to share their learnings with their friends and families.
A two-month recycling activity was also held two months after the workshop where ASUS employees collected plastic bottles, soft plastics, sibak, colored paper, and cartons.
Over 800 kg of total waste was collected through CORA’s Eco-Ikot Center pop-up and brought to Sentinel Upcycling Technologies to transform them into high-quality products such as benches and chairs.
The first of its kind in the world, Eco-Ikot Center is an inclusive and holistic cycling system that allows communities to exchange recyclables for various incentives.
ASUS Zenbook laptops were also used in the project for data recording and program management.
ASUS x CORA Mall Caravan
ASUS installed the Eco-Ikot Center pop-ups in three of its exclusive stores in SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, and SM MOA to make them accessible to the public as part of the project’s second phase.
Mallgoers were able to experience the Zenbook S 13 OLED and learned the importance of using eco-friendly products during the event.
The caravan collected more than 1,100 plastic bottles, equivalent to 28.5 kg.
International Coastal Cleanup Day
In its final phase, ASUS celebrated this year’s International Coastal Cleanup Day with a cleanup drive project.
Zenbook S 13 OLED Ambassador and CORA Founder Antoinette Tu led in cleaning the shore of Las Piñas-Parañque Wetland Park (LPPWP), along with 75 volunteers from ASUS employees, media, influencers, and partners.
The project collected 646.2 kg of waste materials.
LPPWP is part of the Manila Bay coast and is reported to carry an estimated 9.46 billion pieces of plastic waste.
“We need to reduce our waste overall and make sure that the waste we do produce ends up in the right places, to the circular economy,” shared Antoinette Tu.
In the recently announced ASUS 2022 Sustainability Report, the global technology leader detailed that it exceeded ENERGY STAR standards by 34%.
Its eco-friendly products also accounted for 87% of total product revenue.
The commitment of ASUS to an environmentally sustainable future led them to secure multiple awards and recognition internationally.
