IN CASE you forgot, Chris Evans already hung up his shield and bid farewell to his iconic superhero role, Captain America, at the end of “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019.
This year, a new superhero movie is set to roll in cinemas to usher in a new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and introduce the new Captain America who will continue to defend justice with his inherited vibranium shield.
American actor Anthony Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson, this time, not as Falcon but as the new Cap in the forthcoming film, “Captain America: Brave New World.”
But what is “Captain America: Brave New World” about?
The plot
Directed by Julius Onah, the 2025 superhero film will follow Sam—a retired U.S. Air Force pilot and Steve Rogers’s (played by Evans) ally—as he tracks down the true masterminds behind an international incident that transpired after the election of Thaddeus Ross (played by Harrison Ford) as the president of the United States.
The movie’s trailer showed Thaddeus being shot during his speech at a White House event, causing panic among attendees. Sam then reports to Thaddeus that his inner circle has been “compromised.”
But a Marvel movie, even a trailer, won’t end without a surprise for its audience.
Enter Red Hulk, a.k.a Thaddeus, who slams Captain America’s ultimate weapon on the ground. This marks the Red Hulk’s first MCU appearance as an antagonist in the new Captain America movie.
‘Captain America: Brave New World’ cast
Mackie and Ford will be joined by Danny Ramirez, who will portray Joaquín Torres and the new Falcon; Shira Haas as Israeli former Black Widow Ruth Bat-Seraph; Carl Lumbly as Korean War veteran and super soldier Isaiah Bradley; and Xosha Roquemore as secret service agent Leila Taylor.
Also part of the cast are Giancarlo Esposito as scientist Seth Voelker or Sidewinder, Liv Tyler as cellular biologist and Thaddeus’s daughter Betty Ross, and Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns, also known as the Leader.
“Captain America: Brave New World” is written by Rob Edwards, Malcolm Spellman, and Dalan Musson. It will be produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore.
Philippine premiere
“Captain America: Brave New World” is set to premiere in Philippine cinemas on February 12, with tickets now on sale nationwide.
It will also be available in IMAX and 4DX theaters, where ticket holders will enjoy an immersive cinematic experience and bring home special movie premium items such as a limited-edition colored coin, a sticker sheet, and a set of woven patches.
Interested viewers may book their tickets through Disney Philippines’ website.
