Andrea Brillantes says “no more” to love team (for the moment)

by Joanna Deala

ANDREA Brillantes has been paired up with several Filipino actors as a love team in her previous projects, but this time, the 20-year-old actress hopes to delve deep into her career as a solo artist.

The young star shared this during the press conference of the youth-oriented series “Senior High,” which was attended by its cast and production team.

Brillantes believes that having a solo career will give her opportunities to grow more as an artist and explore her craft.

“Ang dami ko nang pinagdaanan sa mga shows ko na lagi akong may nagiging ka-partner. Nung nagkaroon lang ako ng opportunity na parang pwede na akong mag-solo artist, gusto ko siyang i-explore,” she said.

“Tapos ngayon super ko po siyang na-e-enjoy lang and mas nakikilala ko kasi yung sarili ko bilang isang aktress. Mas madami lang po kong pwedeng paglaruan at mas madami akong pwedeng maka-trabaho na bago,” she added.

The Kapamilya actress had been paired up with Grae Fernandez, Seth Fedelin, and Juan Karlos Labajo in her past projects.

She said that she wanted to do “something new” and that she did not want to become “dependent” on her onscreen partner.

But this does not mean that she does not support those who are in a love team, said Brillantes.

“Siguro na-realize ko lang [na] I think it’s just not for me being paired up with a partner. I think, personally, mas nakakakita ako ng personal growth kapag mag-isa po ako,” she explained.

“Pero support ako sa mga love teams. Nothing against them,” she added. “It’s just my personal opinion and experience ko lang po.”

“Senior High” is down to its last two weeks, which means Sky (played by Brillantes) is close to knowing the truth behind the death of her sister Luna (also portrayed by Brillantes). Luna’s death was ruled as a suicide, but Sky thinks otherwise.

The series also starred Labajo, Kyle Echarri, Elijah Canlas, Zaijan Jaranilla, Xyriel Manabat, and Daniela Stranner.

Open to GL

As “Senior High” comes to a close, Brillantes also shared what project she would want to take on in the future.

At the media conference, she said that she is open to doing a girls’ love or GL series with her “Senior High” co-star and best friend, Manabat.

“Pansin ko lang po kasi, there’s a lot of BL (boys’ love) series now. Hindi pa po masyadong madami sa GL,” the actress told the press.

“So if ever lang naman po, I would be comfortable doing it with my best friend kasi magaling siyang actress, eh? And madami kaming makukuha sa isa’t-isa,” she continued.

But Brillantes said that she still respects Manabat’s non-showbiz boyfriend.

Manabat, on the other hand, said she is open to taking on a lesbian role in the future.

“Feeling ko kung mag-o-on cam ako or on-screen na first kissing scene, gusto ko talaga sa babae,” she stressed.

She added, “Kasi feeling ko mas komportable ako ‘pag ganoon and feeling ko, walang ilanganan, less issue, less hassle, and experience siya eh? So parang fulfilling po siya for an experience of an actress.”

Manabat said she is willing to team up with any actress, but she narrated that she had teased Brillantes about doing such a project.

“Dati kasi, bago ako bumalik sa ‘Dirty Linen,’ may mga kaasaran po ako, tapos sabi ko, ‘’Pag ikaw pinormahan ko,’ tas kinakantahan ko siya, tinititigan ko siya sa mata, tas kinikilig naman siya sa’kin,” the actress shared.

Asked about who she was referring to, Manabat replied: “Basta matalik ko po siyang kaibigan. Tumatawa siya ngayon.” The camera then panned to the cast members, showing Brillantes laughing.

Brillantes and Manabat are among the young actresses who hope to star in a GL series.

Jane de Leon and Janella Salvador, also known as JaneNella, had welcomed the possibility of doing a GL project after their fans noticed their onscreen chemistry in the 2022 superhero series “Darna.”
