Andrea Brillantes defended herself against criticisms over her “Date or Pass” vlog where she revealed whose celebrities she would want to date.
In her vlog posted on August 21, Brillantes could be seen playing the “Date or Pass” game with her friends, Danica Ontengco, Bea Borres and Criza Taa.
In the game, the players will be shown pictures of several individuals and they have to answer if they would like to “date” or “pass” that person.
Among the personalities who were shown in the video were basketball stars Kobe Paras and Kai Sotto, actors Brent Manalo, Miguel Tan Felix and David Licauco, and singer-songwriter Adie.
But the vlog did not sit well with netizens, with some of them accusing the 20-year-old actress for being “flirty” given her current relationship status. Brillantes recently broke up with basketball player Ricci Rivero.
Addressing this issue, the Kapamilya star posted a “Get Ready With Me” video on TikTok, which has over 1.4 million views as of writing.
Brillantes said that she saw some articles about the vlog and expected that its comment section would be filled with negative comments.
“I had a feeling na, ‘Siguro ‘yung comments section puno na ng boomers. Siguro sinasabi nila na puro ako boys, hanap ako nang hanap, mag-pahinga naman muna ako. Or to be harsh, malandi daw ako,” she said.
She continued, “Pero hindi rin naman nagkamali ang lola niyo dahil tama nga ako. Puro ‘yun nga ang nasa comments section.”
The actress reiterated the disclaimer she put on her vlog, where she said that the game was just for fun and that it shouldn’t be taken seriously.
Brillantes further explained that women should not receive hate for making the first move, and that she is already at the age to have fun.
“For me, that’s not being malandi at all. I don’t think a woman should be receiving harsh words and hate just because she’s being courageous sa lalaking natitipuhan niya,” Brillantes explained.
“I also don’t think I should be getting hate if I ever decide to put myself out there na. Tinitignan ko kasi siya sa perspective na I’m in my 20s, I own a business, I have a nice career, I pay my bills and taxes, so why need to hate when I just want to have fun?” she added.
Meanwhile, netizens were quick to show their support to the actress and commended her for a “classy” response.
Brillantes currently leads ABS-CBN’s latest primetime series “Senior High,” which kicked off last August 28.
