LGBTQIA+ rainbow
STARTING June 25 to 26, the well-known Amsterdam rainbow dress will be displayed at the Trinoma Activity Center in Quezon City.
Created by Arnout van Krimpen, the dress features countries flags on where being part of the LGBTQIA+ community is punishable. This also includes eight countries where engaging on homosexual acts can lead to death penalty.
Meanwhile the flag of Amsterdam symbolizes the country of Netherland on where it is known to be the longstanding supporter and safe haven for the persecuted members of the LGBTQIA+ members community.
While the dress features the hardships that the LGBTQIA+ members undergo to, the dress also symbolizes the rights of the LGBTIQIA+ community and their resilience.
Just recently, Filipino queer icon Vice Ganda wore the dress at the LoveLaban2Everyone: Pride PH festival in Memorial Circle last weekend.
The exhibit of the show is an international solidarity with the Filipino LGBTQIA+ community. It also shows its support for the Philippines’ fight against discrimination and equality.
The Amsterdam Rainbow Dress exhibit was made possible thanks to the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Manila and Pride PH, in partnership with Ayala Malls Trinoma, the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress Fondation, PANTAY, and Babaylanes Inc.
