THE country’s battle for its first Miss Cosmo crown is still on, as Ahtisa Manalo continues to represent the Philippines even after she sustained an ankle injury ahead of the pageant’s finals night.
On Sunday, The Miss Philippines Organization shared an update about Manalo’s health, saying that she suffered a sprained ankle that led her to miss several activities for the Miss Cosmo 2024 competition.
But pageant fans need not worry as the organization assured that the 27-year-old beauty queen is “safe” and resting to recover from the injury.
Manalo also stated that she is “well and safe.”
“I just need to rest to make sure my sprained ankle heals and recovers for the upcoming competition,” Miss Cosmo Philippines 2024 said on a Facebook post.
“I’m sad to miss our activity today where I can interact with supporters, sponsors and other candidates but my health and recovery is my top priority now,” she added.
Manalo also asked her fans to wish her a speedy recovery to continue her Miss Cosmo journey.
However, Manalo and The Miss Philippines Organization did not disclose what caused the former’s ankle injury.
‘Technical incident’
Their statement followed Miss Cosmo Organization’s announcement of a “technical incident” on Saturday, September 28, during the finalization of Miss Cosmo 2024’s main stage.
“Upon immediate discovery, the Miss Cosmo organization swiftly collaborated with technical experts, medical units and relevant authorities to address the situation,” it said.
“Initial assessments confirm that there were no significant damages. We will continue to work with related parties to determine the root cause of the incident and provide updates to the public as soon as possible,” it added.
Vietnam-based media outlets reported that the lighting system crashed onto the pageant’s stage, which was set up at Phu Tho Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City. Several photos of the technical mishap made rounds online.
The organization assured that safety measures have been implemented. It also asked for “understanding and support” following the incident.
The Miss Cosmo coronation night will be held on October 5.
