Ahn Hyo Seop delights fans with cover of ‘Free’ from ‘KPop Demon Hunters’

FOR viewers who still cannot get enough of “KPop Demon Hunters” and are missing its beloved characters, you are not alone.

South Korean actor Ahn Hyo Seop, who lent his voice to Jinu, said he missed his character, too, surprising fans with his rendition of “Free” on Instagram.

“I covered ‘Free’ from ‘KPop Demon Hunters.’ Missing Jinu,” Ahn wrote in the caption, along with a devil emoji.

“Free” is one of the soundtracks of “KPop Demon Hunters,” a 2025 animated musical fantasy film on Netflix, which has been getting the attention of audiences, particularly K-pop fans, across the globe.

In the movie, Ahn’s character, Jinu, performed “Free” alongside Rumi, voiced by Arden Cho. However, Andrew Choi and EJAE, who provided Jinu and Rumi’s singing voices, respectively, were the original performers of the song in “KPop Demon Hunters,” not Ahn and Cho.

Many netizens were impressed by Ahn’s rendition, with some suggesting he release a full cover of “Free.”

Cho also noticed Ahn’s performance and said, “We miss Jinu too!!! I should cover ‘Free’ too hehe.”

Billboard Philippines reported on Wednesday, July 2, that several tracks from the animated film entered its “Hot 100” chart for the week of July 5, 2025. The list included “Free,” which landed at No. 36.

About ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’

“KPop Demon Hunters” was co-directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. The filmmakers also took part in writing the script, collaborating with Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan.

The flick follows HUNTR/X, a popular K-pop girl group who secretly hunt demons who prey upon humans by feeding their souls to their ruler Gwi-Ma, voiced by Byung Hun Lee.

Rumi serves as HUNTR/X’s confident and hardworking leader. She is joined by members Mira and Zoey, voiced by May Hong and Yoo Ji-young, respectively. They are on a mission to save humanity by sealing the demons and restoring the Honmoon, a barrier that protects the human world from the evil forces.

HUNTR/X later faces off against a rising K-pop boy group named Saja Boys, whose members are actually demons and are led by Jinu.

Fun fact for Filipino viewers, award-winning Broadway star Lea Salonga provided the singing voice for Celine, Rumi’s foster mother, and a former demon hunter and K-pop star.

“KPop Demon Hunters” is now streaming exclusively on Netflix.
