GRAB your tissues folks— Nicholas Sparks’ beloved classic A Walk to Remember is officially getting a remake.
Monarch Media has secured the rights to Nicholas Sparks’ 1999 novel A Walk to Remember, with plans to develop a film reboot—22 years after the original movie hit theaters in 2002.
Fueling the excitement even more, the project is reportedly bringing back some familiar faces behind the scenes.
Denise Di Novi and Hunt Lowry—producers of the original adaptation starring Mandy Moore and Shane West—are set to return, raising anticipation through the roof as fans wonder how this new version will honor the story that made them sob all those years ago.
“I am so grateful to Steve [Barnett] and Monarch Media for giving all of us the opportunity to bring this enduring and inspirational story of faith, hope and love to a new generation, all qualities we need now more than ever,” said Di Novi in a statement to Deadline.
The original film was directed by Adam Shankman, but no director has been attached to the reboot just yet—nor has the cast been revealed.
While details remain under wraps for now, all eyes are on who will step into the beloved roles of Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter.
As for Mandy Moore—the actress who famously brought Jamie Sullivan to life—she already has someone in mind who could help the casting team find the perfect leads.
In a 2022 interview with People, Moore shared her excitement about the idea of a remake and even suggested someone she believes would be a great fit to play Jamie.
“I would love that … I don’t know, Olivia Rodrigo or something like that … Someone could redo this film,” she said.
Olivia Rodrigo is a famous singer-songwriter who rose to fame in 2021 with her chart-topping singles like ‘Driver’s License’ and ‘Good 4 U’.
“I would love to see it. It’s been long enough that, yeah, I feel like we’ve earned our place in cinematic history for a reboot at this point,” Moore added.
A Walk to Remember is a romantic drama about a rebellious teen who falls for a quiet, kind-hearted girl, leading to a love story that changes both their lives forever.
